Healthy, Fashionable Criminals
Wrapping up some longboard-centric items. First up is fashion designer Adam Kimmel’s promo film Claremont consisting of a couple of beardos screaming downhill in suits we can only assume were designed by Adam Kimmel. I’m not exactly sure how the tie in works, but it seems to be getting people talking. The right people? I can’t make that call. I thought it was a hoax at first, as far as Adam Kimmel being in the fashion industry, but it would have to be an elaborate one. The downhill action looks insanely fast. These guys even pass a car as well as passing the camera between themselves and shooting backwards. I don’t know how they do it, but my helmet is off to them. They make a certain German downhiller look like a wuss in comparison. Supposedly, German police are on the lookout for a man assumed to be “a professional stuntman” in full leathers who reached 62 MPH on a two mile stretch of the Autobahn after getting a tow in by a motorcycle. Pfffft! Talk to me when you do it in light blue polyester. Lastly, there’s the L.A. Times article titled More skaters switching to longboards, from the…
GVK# 38: Skate Ghost Junior
So me and some of the crew explored the oregon coast in search of Skate Ghost. We saw a lot of stuff, some old friends and some new parks. The one thing we did not find was Skate Ghost Senior, but we did find his offspring, Skate Ghost “Junior.” He is killing it. He made me feel old. He will make you feel DEAD. Maybe you can join us on our journey next year to find the father. You may never find Skate Ghost but the search is the most fun anyways. Killed by cute. Audi Grover
GVK# 36: AST Dew Tour Detour
Hey every one my friend Andy was in town for the Dew A.S.T. tour, and yours truly got a media pass. I saw him Friday afternoon at practice he told me he and Chris Miller were going to skate Pier Park. It was nice to see that place properly ridden. Those guys were also very nice. Not like your normal skater with something to prove. Anyhow I hope you like the footage, backlight setting mishaps and all. It was a great session. Maybe you will get the next one. – Skate Off Grover. P.S. The door is obviously easy to go over as you can see. I did not see Miller bail it ever. True Dat.
Saturday Starrs #7: Skater Girls from 1975
“… and hitting the concrete, with the new skateboarding.” This looks like a brief out take from one of those independent surf films. It’s pretty short (and dark if you are watching on a Windows machine) that is typical for the era. Nice jazz guitar soundtrack. Someone should make an updated version of this with the ladies, but in the same campy style.
Oregon Trifecta LC webcast
Going off right now right here You’ll have to register but it doesn’t take long. I couldn’t get the low bandwidth version to go but the bigger one worked. Thanks to Troy Sliter for the heads up.
GVK #36 – Trifecta 07: Where’s My Money?
Hey everyone the circus is back in town, AKA Tri-fecta. Boy, am I excited. It is always fun to have a bunch of talent show up. Here is a little footage from Pier Park Tri 07. Notice gold mental winner Glifberg edger over the hole, a GVK exclusive shot you wont see that on Fuel TV, E.X.P.N. or anywhere else. Skate off Grover.
Caught clean
Answering the call of redattore capo Kilwag for more street coverage. I found a few segments captured in HD. I can’t speak for everyone, but when I bought my first high definition television I sought out HD content to watch. Just to see what the hell I was paying for, didn’t matter what it was, if it was in HD I’d watch it. Somehow placating myself to justify my purchase I suppose. In the end I don’t care one way or the other as I’m into substance over visuals when it comes to my TV viewing. With the commodities like digital video cameras, HD is arriving to skate videos. Consumer based HD cameras are <$1000 now. Some of the bigger brands in skateboarding such as Girl and DC are even shooting with the RED camera costing over $20,000 for a setup. Even Lakai’s video Fully Flared is heading to Bluray discs. Videos and more after the jump. Thanks to Skate Fairy for images and info.
The Shinning
There are shin injuries, and then there are shin injuries. That shot in the top right is Danny Way hanging his shins out to dry on the coping of the quarterpipe part of the Megaramp after catching about 20 feet of air. Catch some incredulous highlights after the jump, including Jake Brown’s return to the event. Looking at that huge contraption… I can’t believe it’s actually used in a competition. An exhibition would be crazy enough. I hope those guys are getting paid. How the hell do you practice for this? It’s not like they have them set up everywhere. So yeah, those guys are skateboarding, and it’s amazing to watch, but one of these days someone is going to die or end up crippled. Best case scenario: They’ll be like Hank Hill’s shinless father Cotton Hill.
GVK#35: The Kid (Trailer)
Watch out Hollywood here comes the”Docudramedy” “THE KID” (The Joe Carson story). I may need some extras so send your credentials/credits and head shots in. This is your chance to show the world what you can do. We’re trying out Vimeo now on The Kid trailer and Howard’s May Day Skate Party. If it works well we’ll go back and upload previous GVK’s. Cut! Grover…
Skate to the Top with Paragon Salad
Lewis Brundige aka Iowask8er sent in this video that is half music vid, half skate vid, and err… another half home movie. The band is Paragon Salad, and the song is called Skate to the Top. I’m not into metal, so in that respect I’m a little out of step with most of the musical tastes of the Northwest rippers out here, but I think you’ll be surprised by the music. I’m humming it right now. I couldn’t find any info anywhere on the band, beside the fact that a guy named Dave Miller is/was in it. [Update: Dave Miller was the guitarist, that was his old band. This is his new band.] The whole thing looks like it was shot and edited underwater, but it’s worth it if you make sure to stick around for “the end.” There’s something for almost everyone here. – Thanks to Lewis for the tip.
