Weird old board of the month: Flex-trol
A Flex-trol skateboard, apparently the first one on the Interwebs, as I couldn’t find a single image of one anywhere. I’m guessing the name is combination of “flex” and “control.” Yeah I know, wild guess. This skateboard is fitted with a tension and torque control bar. The trucks are held at a fixed distance by the bar and as result: Has a sharp turning radius. It takes less lean to do a turn. Fewer skid-outs. The control bar tends to keep all 4 wheels on the ground during maneuvers. Board flex is controlled. As the flex increases, the board stiffens. This eliminates any “mushy” feel. Manufactured by the good folks at A.E. & Co out of Tarzana, Ca. I’m tempted to look it up and see if that patent ever got awarded. List of possible subtitles for this post: It takes less lean to do a turn. Fewer skid-outs As the flex increases, the board stiffens? Danimal picked this up recently at a Good Will!
Hosoi earns a Penny
How to stay relevant in a world where you came up with an original (isn) idea and everyone has copied you, and Chinese manufacturers are flooding the market? Christian Hosoi has a model out on Penny skateboards. Looks pretty damned cool, and he shreds that thing. Video after the jump.
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus on a skateboard, sort of. Even if her boyfriend wasn’t carrying his Penny board, he’d still look like a douche. She’s no poser… two days in a row even. [Source: US Weekly] – Thanks to Mrs Kilwag for the tip.
I coleotteri
This weird looking plastic skateboard comes from Italy, and it’s model or brand name is Ringo. I (obviously) like collecting weird little plastic skateboards, and this one is certainly worthy at an opening bid of US $6.47, but it’s the $40 in shipping that is making me pass. From the bottom it almost looks like a Makaha. Dai un’occhiata a questo articolo. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.
Friday T&A on S&A: Plastic
How do you dress up and old idea? With half dressed girls of course. Globe’s Bantam Cruisers are pretty much the same thing that Penny has to offer (more on that later) so I guess that monopoly is over. Fortunately, what Globe lacks in original product ideas they were able to make up for in the well executed tribute to the 80’s visual style, albeit with a 70’s style plastic skateboard. Is it sexist? Sure, but is it fun? Yes. Great choice of Tones on Tail for the soundtrack too. The only thing missing are the Swatches. Wait, is someone going to hassle me for not knowing the correct plural form of Swatch? (Lego, legos LEGOS!) Pink Motel commercial footage after the jump. UPDATE: I just saw one of these in a skateshop. They did actually improve on the construction of the plastic skateboard. It’s dense, hard and stiff. Really sturdy actually.
