Portland skateboarders foiled a possibly deadly assault on a woman, knocking out the ice pick wielding assailant with a skateboard and holding him until police arrived. Good job citizens. Were these skaters the PDX equivalent of the Red Angels of Dragnet City? (Noprize anyone?) Nope, they were skating a recently built concrete ramp outside of River City Bicycles, where the owner of the shop had the ramps built specifically “for learning tricks on.” While he doesn’t specify whether it was built for skateboards or bicycles, he credits the “quarter pipe” with saving the woman’s life. OK, we can give him that. There’s room for bikes and skaters to get along in Portland (BIke lane! Bike Lane!) especially if you keep building spots for us… As long as you look up the definition of quarter pipe. Merde Skatebaords corporate bigwig Mike Egbert hates Portland, and everyone who skates there. That’s why he’s moving back to Klamath Falls. Actually that’s not true. He is moving, but he loves Portland. He had this to say about his new venture: Basically, I’m just trying to establish a skateshop in Klamath. I’m just starting out with an online shop so kids down there can see what is available, as I’ll probably be selling gear out of my car until I can get a retail space going. I’m from there so I want to help their scene however I can. There are a lot of ripping skaters in Southern Oregon. I’d like to just help those dudes get some coverage/due. I’ve never ran a store, so I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I think I’ll learn pretty quick. I’ll just try and focus on what unheard carries, for the time being. Once i get established, i want to bring in more brands that i’m stoked on. i’m a big skate nerd, so i’m partial to particular brands. Skate Farm is a good name, lends itself to all kinds of imagery. I don’t know how Mr deep pockets is going…

Spohn Ranch has begun building a new skatepark in the Dalles, OR. It’s a small 7,500 square foot street spot type park that will be 100% poured in place concrete. I don’t know how this one got past all the Northwest companies, but you know what they say about spilt milk. Catch some renders of the park after the jump. Busy week at Shrunken Head who is celebrating their five year anniversary with an art show opening at Breeze Block gallery on Thursday, April 7th, 2011 from 6-10pm.
