Moose On the Loose
Skunks, old men, children, rats, raccoons, and automobiles… Those are all things we’re accustomed to seeing in the Venn diagram of “things that get stuck in skateparks.” Now we can add moose to the list too. This moose calf was rescued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife at the Breckenridge Skatepark. Apparently the mother was nearby and calmly waited for her calf to be rescued, which is lucky because Moose are not an animal you want to mess with. Just ask Natasha and Boris. The Many Springs of Colorado.
A couple of weeks ago I flew to Colorado Springs for a wedding. There are plenty of proper spots to skate in Colorado, none of which I saw during my short allotted time there. I did see an interesting banked curb setup in Colorado Springs, and street skating in Manitou Springs.
Evergreen in Milliken, CO
Here’s a couple of construction photos of the new skatepark in Milliken, Colorado being built by Evergreen Skateparks.
The Deer Hunter
Best crash vid ever. It’s hard to tell from this still frame, but that’s Ryan Vitale’s downhill run ending abruptly courtesy of the local wildlife during the third annual Buffalo Bill Downhill in Golden, Colorado with no major injuries to either party. [Source: Grind TV] – Thanks to Sarib for the tip.
Arvada Colorado pics
Forgot to post these actually, from the Team Pain park in Arvada, Colorado. Photos courtesy of COSkate.com. A nice video montage too, after the jump.
New park will attract old cliches
The NBC affiliate 9 News in Denver recently aired a piece on the impending opening of the new Arvada skatepark. The emphasis of the spot, apparently shot on the set of Masterpiece Theater (see photo), is on the “construction workers” that built the park, a crew that would go entirely unnamed were it not for an appropriately placed company logo on a hoody. I know these guys are technically construction workers, but it seems like a misnomer. It’s worth watching though, and there’s even a good laugh. What’s the name of their video segment? Why it’s “New park will attract skaters to Arvada.” I dunno… seems a little far fetched. Arvada is a Team Pain skatepark. Team Pain is actually a finalist in a The World of Concrete “Crews that Rock” contest. I don’t know what they get if they win, but if you vote you become eligible to win an iPad 2. Make sure to scroll down to get to the Team Pain listing, the page is kind of long.
Please snake me.
These pictures of the Team Pain park in Arvada, Colorado are already a couple weeks old. Hell, it might even be done by now. Snake runs please me.
Arvada, Colorado already in progress
It’s been nine months since I posted the preliminary plans for this regional park in Arvada, Colorado and now we’ve got some snake run construction photos courtesy of Team Pain.
Northglenn, Colorado skatepark
Another Team Pain project in Colorado. They might as well move there, they pretty much own that state as far as skateparks go. This one is in Northglenn.
Helicopter slam
The guys over at Skatehouse Media and Wheelbase Mag have really upped their game when it comes to capturing downhill race coverage. Who would have thought throwing a helicopter into the mix (when not dropping into a mega ramp) would be useful, but for downhill it really is nice. While I was waiting for the video from Maryhill (still above top) to make the final cut, the crew went to another event in Colorado called the Buffalo Bill Downhill. Unfortunately, the helicopter crashed! But fortunately nobody was seriously injured and the whole thing was caught on video and in stills. The two photos in the bottom are credited to Marcus Bandy at Wheelbase. The one on the right is from a preview of the race, while the one on the left is an amazing shot of the helicopter as it is hitting the ground.. After the jump, catch video coverage of the crash and Maryhill footage with absolutely no (helicopter) crashes.
