Skate and Annoy: Daily
The Longrider
I’m still waiting for someone to send in a pic of the Wheelieboard, so I’ll post this for now. Plastic skateboards were a dime a dozen, so you had to do something to distinguish yourself. The longrider comes to you courtesy of an eBay auction a year or so ago. Right now the only place they are showing up is on defunct Australian eBay auctions. The colorized black and white picture comes from a cool Australian skate zine called GaP, which you can download. It’s in issue one, which dates back to 2005. You can see larger pics and the auction description which is packed with a surprising amount of background info on this 1983 vintage board after the jump.
Gus Van Sant vs. Larry Clark
In today’s Oregonian there is an article on yesterday’s casting call for the new Gus Van Sant film Paranoid Park. Has anyone seen Wassup Rockers? Kids left a bad taste in my mouth so I avoided Whassup Rockers like the plague. Even though the Wassup PR people kept sending us crap and Chad Muska and Roger Ebert both gave it a thumbs up, it seemed like it had the potential to be another creepy exploitive movie. Paranoid Park involves some young skaters and an incident at a local skatepark where some rough kids hang out. Guess which park they are filming at?
Oregon Trifecta – Lincoln City Coverage
Well here it is finally. Coverage of day one of the 2006 Oregon Trifecta at Lincoln City. I’ll be doing these one day at a time. That’s Tim Johnson up above.
Don’t Give Up!
Aieee! It’s taking longer than I thought, getting the names and results. I wasted a lot of time building tables from PDF’s only to have the World Cup Skateboarding post the results in the meantime. Massive picture flood coming tomorrow. I’m going to do this thing one day’s event at a time this year. The picture above is just to tide you over. Sleestak local and Libtech rider Jesse Nelson aka Messy Smelson.
Local Boy Makes Good.
Not much to say here except congrats go to Mason Huggins for beating out such big names as Omar Hassan, Benji Galloway, Rune Glifberg, and Ben Krahn to win the Newberg part of the 2006 Oregon Trifecta. The Scrotes are living large! (WTF?) This year’s events went much smoother than in the past. Pics and words to come as soon as I sort through and process them all.
He’s OK!
Mark Conahan scared the crap out of a lot of people at the Trifecta in Newberg Oregon today. He was coming down from a frontside air the capsule and met Salba charging head on. Mark had no idea what hit him, and he was out cold for about 3-5 minutes. He was having heavy ragged breathing, almost as if he was snoring. The flew him out on a helicopter, only to release him two hours later. He has a concussion (duh!) but otherwise is fine. I just left his house after downloading the pictures I took of him. I thought I’d give him a head start on posting this, but I still might beat him cause he’s not exactly the sharpest tack in the box right now. If he asks, tell him he agreed to leave Rebel and ride for Cold War shortly before blacking out. In all seriousness, Mark, we’re all glad you’re OK. That’s two concussions for our local crew in two weeks. These things come in threes, so I’m wearing my helmet. Oh yeah.. Trifecta Results. Women: Amelia Brodka. Masters: Glen Charnoski. Pro/Am: Mason Huggins! Now go check Mark’s site to see if I beat him to…

For the truly lazy kook.
Balance boards? Ok, they can be fun indoors if it’s raining. I suppose they actually do help your balance skills. Enter the iJoy, a motorized balance board. This decade’s mechanical bull or just plain old bull? The illustration of the “bad Idea” is from the product’s owner’s manual. Nice use of lowercase “i” to imply it’s somehow internet/iPod related. The Last Great Pool Season
This summer has seen a bumper crop of pools in the Portland area. There must be a lot because even I know about them. The last time I rode this many pools in such a short time period was shortly before I dropped out of school. Since I can’t post the pics of the pools that are still going, you can see some highlights of my poor decision in the late 80’s.
