Skate and Annoy: Daily
Super Jank!
I’ve seen and skated a few indoor ramps over the years, and I’m talking inside a proper house indoor, not a garage or a barn. This setup is pretty small but it’s fun to watch this little kid sessions it and rearrange at will like a little Lego set. I watched the whole thing, and every time I started to get bored another funny variation would pop up. Schaeffer McLean’s dad has out-GVKed Grover, somewhere in the U.K.. Apparently this kid is an internet sensation who has been ” uploading edits since he was 4 years old, currently one of the most watched skateboarders in the world with over 18 million You Tube views” This video is a couple years old, and the kid has gotten better, so it’s only a matter of time before we spot him breaking down, crying on his own MTV show. Still, you can’t watch this video without smiling.
Don’t Walk
MC is visiting NYC, where someone has been sticking the crosswalk signals with little skateboards. If you see something, sticker something.
Lakeland Florida
Skatepark builders are really stepping up their game when it comes to marketing on the Interwebs. Even the videos from some of the smaller design/build firms are getting slick. Here’s one from Team Pain, (by no means a small) covering a recently finished park in Lakeland Florida. Looks like a fun park, a little bit of something for everyone.
Burberry from 2002
A licensed Burberry skateboard featured in the January/February 2002 issue of FHM magazine. So yeah… $450, which makes a lot of sense. Heat transfers were expensive at the turn of the millennium.
Chaki Popeye
Skateboards made from fancy veneers that are possibly recycled. From Chaki Japan. “Popeye” is possibly the name of a magazine, I think. – Thanks to MC for the tip.

Dynamite Magazine #42 with Laura Thornhill
Laura Thornhill featured in Dynamite Magazine #42, published in 1977. Sylvester Stallone on the cover, what is next for Sylvester after Rocky? four more Rocky movies of course. Listen, I don’t care if he only made 3 more or 5 more, so don’t bother to correct me if I’m wrong. This is the third appearance of skateboarding in Dynamite Magazine here on S&A. Complete spread and text after the jump.
Switchbacks Series in Portland
Stoked to announce that the 2014 Switchbacks series will once again be going off this year. The permits are rolling and I will be making my way back north to PDX in a week to dial in the final details. For those unaware the Switchbacks Series is a free competition that is fully permitted in Downtown Portland OR. This is the backbone of the Portland Downhill community bringing riders of all ages and skill levels together for a fun competition. The race format is 6 man heats race every position out, providing competitors with at least 3 race heats during the day. The hill is open for everyone to skate throughout the competition and it tends to draw a few hundred competitors and spectators. At the end of the competition a BBQ and raffle is hosted at Rip City Skate. Year after year this event has been a huge success in both participation and community integration, and is simply one of the most fun informal event series in downhill skateboarding in the Pacific North West. For details on the event June 1st please visit our Facebook Event Page. The format of this race makes it seem like it might be…
Metal coping tips
A reader named Jacob noticed a gap in the DIY concrete tomes: I’ve been doing a lot of research lately (watching videos, reading articles, etc..) on DIY Backyard projects. I’m learning a lot just from that and now i just need to try and apply the things i’ve learned and actually pour some concrete. I guess my question is, where can I get some how to’s or tips on how to make a concrete quarter pipe with metal coping? I’ve seen a lot on how to pour and finish (screet, burn, handstack, etc..) but not getting any tips on how to incorporate metal coping during the build. I asked Tito from Team Pain if he had any tips.
Like getting a divorce in the 50’s
One day there might not be a social stigma attached to extreme pogo sticking, so enjoy hating while you can. Hey, some of my best friends have pogo sticks, and actually, I don’t see the pogo, all I see is the extreme. All the fun and excitement of skateboarding, like grinding down rails, weird step through fake boneless ones, and cleaning out your own spot without all the hassle of impressing the opposite sex or the chance of lucrative endorsement deals. Xpogo Films presents “Cooligans” after the jump. I couldn’t find the link Andy Mac’s pogo stick endorsement on S&A, I ‘d swear we covered this sport a long… time ago. MC found this on Boing Boing
