Please don’t feed the troll!
A short time after he made his first comment, I got a private email offering condolences that Daddy Yo had found SnA. I was perplexed because it was still early in his career here and on the surface his comment wasn’t drastically more annoying than most. I remember thinking “How bad can he be?” I mean, he has friends. Well, now I know. It took me forever to find a picture of this guy while searching “Daddy Yo” and “skateboard” in Google Images. It’s a big surprise that SnA has most of the recent listings for unrelated images, which makes me wonder how Google Images compiles their data. He did turn up in person over at the Extreme Carving forum executing a flyout grab on his alterna-board complete with bindings while exclaiming “I made this board to jump.” If anyone has a decent photo of him, we can make him Annoying Kid of the Month. Remember, it’s perfectly legal to take his picture at a public skatepark. So I’m sure he’ll weigh in on this post, maybe threatening a lawsuit or involving the police in some capacity. Maybe he’s just playing an elaborate internet hoax. In any case… PLEASE DO…
Friday T&A on S&A: Who is this Eric Cherry character?
If you are a regular reader you’ve hopefully noticed a few posts lately with Eric Cherry as the author. I’m actually surprised nobody brought it up. Eric’s been a reader for some time now, he’s submitted some good tips. Independently of MC taking H.O.M.O.S. back to his sandbox, I have been considering trying to add some new voices to Skate and Annoy. It’s hard finding a match, but in the past few weeks I was already appropriating some of the commentary from his tips, so I recruited him with a soft sell. Eric seems to be a reserved in talking about himself (Don’t you wish I was?) so I was struggling for a way to introduce him. Fortunately, his mostly pinup art skateboard collection fits in nicely with Friday T&A. A man’s board collection says a lot about him. Or not. Check it out. Welcome to our little scene.
Conahan: Who needs him?
See, I can do this just as well, if not better. Mark who? But seriously folks… It’s been a long run, and I’m sad to see the H.O.M.O.S. go. This stupid comic took me half a day to make.
Hopeless
Hopeless Old Men On Skateboards are moving back in with their parents. Conahan will continue to post his precious photos, skatepark advocacy announcements and reports of our silly little scene here at SnA (although when I told him, Kilwag said I was dead to him now). If you hated having to see those terrible drawings with the unfunny jokes when all you wanted was EBay Watch, Grover’s Video Korner or the latest skateboard influenced cultural phenomenon – good riddance! If you enjoy it, you’ll find it over at Antigravity Press.
GVK Photo Kontest Winner
The results are in and the Grovefather trounced the competition, so congratulations to Larry Pescatore, who will be receiving his prize package consisting of a Cold War skateboard and some assorted junk. We also got a few late, late entries after the voting had already started. You can see them after the jump.
GVK contest ends Sunday at Midnight
The end is near! The GVK Photo Manipulation Kontest ends Sunday at Midnight! Get those images done this weekend if you want a chance to win a free skateboard and some assorted schwag. This entry comes courtesy of Seth Berg. Of course if you just want a chance to win a skateboard without having to spend any creative energy, check out this contest over at Sacrifice Skateboards.
Skateboard Park Tycoon
There are two things wrong with the Skateboard Park Tycoon game title. First, it should be “Skatepark Tycoon” or “Skate Park Tycoon.” Second, nobody really makes money running a skateboard park. Skateboard Park Tycoon combines a sims type atmosphere with all the fun of building your own pretend skatepark and and sitting there watching pretend people skate it. It was so good, they made three of them.
GVK photo kontest still wide open
Come on people. We still need your GVK Photo Kontest entries. This shot above is not an entry, just a composite to get you stoked. Mummified Grover is an out take from an old print issue cover shoot. There will be one deck from an undecided manufacturer in the prize package. I’ve compiled some of the entries so far after the jump. It ends June 8th, so lets get going!
Post number 2000!
Lest you forget, Skate and Annoy has been online since 1996, when the content was sparse and very, very stagnant. Around 2000 I started putting up a lot more static html in fits every now and then. Actually, “fits” is an appropriate word. You never knew what would set off an update, but certain events like the Trifecta or a strobe light were guaranteed to set one off. I started the blog thing back in July of 2006. For some reason I was reluctant integrate a blog into Skate and Annoy, but I think I made the right decision after all. When I integrated the blog it got much better. Finally, I got tired of trying to outpost Mark Conahan, so I just invited him over. As the updates became more frequent, the traffic started to increase. Then I started thinking about what other voices I could add to the site. I’d like to take this time to thank the regular and irregular contributors we’ve had, most notably Mark Conanhan, and House of Neil and Steve Grover. You’ll all be getting fat bonuses calculated on a percentage of your base salaries. Quick, what’s 10% of zero? The rest of you…
Cause he gets Fan Mail (CONTEST OVER)
Cause he gets fan mail, and he really, really reads it. Fan mail, and he really really needs it. I sent you my letter now I want a reply. You don’t know any better so you won’t take your time with my fan mail Name that slightly altered tune for a valued Noprize. (Everyone I know is disqualified.) This picture of Grover was sent in by an adoring fan, and he’s got more than one. Hell, since I’m wasting one of the precious few posts we have left before we hit 2000 (!) – We might as well have a GVK photo contest. The best Grover collage submitted will win an actual prize, maybe a skateboards or some wheels or some miscellaneous (and useful) items we have laying around. Oh, and of course, a signed glossy publicity photo of the Doctor himself. Complete rules and a source file of Grover you can grab after the jump. (- Thanks to Kevin Kotrell for this one.) UPDATE: CONTEST HAS ENDED – VOTE HERE
