Majorette Skate Board van
Majorette die cast cars are like the red headed step child of die cast cars compared to Hot Wheels and especially Johnny Lightning. Even Matchbox cars are kind of crappy, but at least they roll better than Racing Champions. Is Corgi even around anymore? Those things were insanely expensive. Majorette has some less common car models compared to the majors, maybe that’s because they’re from France. The shells are sometimes cool, but they’ve always been kind of chintzy, and now that they’re made in Thailand they’re pretty much relegated to the pile s of overpriced junk destined for the short toy ailses of Walgreens. I have no idea when this Majorette Skate Board van was made, but it looks very 80’s to me. The bottom has no information on it other than some manufacturing nonsense like “ECH 1/65” and “FOURGON 279/234,” whatever that means. The whole thing cost me a little over $5 with shipping, and it came all the way form the U.K.. The guy who sold it had to have lost money by the time he posted it, especially if you take the time into account. Maybe he’s got a trained monkey doing his eBay listings.
There’s the puppy!
“Skateboard over and check out the lemonade stand. There is the puppy!” Words of wisdom from the box of the 1995 edition of Clue Jr: The Case of the Missing Toys. The rules fittingly state if you roll the dice and the skateboard comes up, you get to go anywhere on the board you want to. Unfortunately, none of the game pieces were skateboards. – Thanks to Curtis for the pictures.
Taco Bell is for Weird-Ohs
Kids meal toys at Taco Bell are (were, most likely) really cheap Weird-Ohs brand fingerboards. I am officially losing my mind now, because I swear I already did a post about some Weird-Ohs branded magnetic figures on a skateboard, but I can’t find it anywhere on the site. I can’t link to it, but the figures were on skateboards that were kind of crappy, so it’s no surprise that the freebie kids meal toys at Taco Bell are even crappier. It’s a shame cause the Weird-Oh legacy is pretty cool. If they did it right, a lot of people would really dig them.
Jill’s skateboard adventure
The auction for Jill’s skateboard adventure accessory set for your Charlie’s Angel doll has been removed but luckily for you (or unluckily, as the case may may be…) I requested a bigger version of the picture before it was pulled. Unfortunately, it’s got a gnarly hot spot from the flash. So yes, doll clothes on Skate and Annoy. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.
Nerfuls
You know, I’ve been to the 80’s, and I never saw these Nerful toys the whole time I was there. They even had TV commercials. Nerfuls were basically balls with faces that sat in little stand. Think of it as an old school Weeble with a custom egg cup. Stewie and Campy Nerful came with a skateboard.
Del Mar close out
You can buy this Tech Deck Del Mar pool replica for anywhere from $30-$60 online, or under $8 (not a typo) in store at select Target stores on clearance.
Me want skateboard
Cookie Monster in a classic pose. I have no idea what time period this is from. It could be any tie from the mid eighties on.
Sesame Street Chutes and Ladders
Elmo is getting to be a regular here. His stance is getting better. Chutes and ladders… I was thinking it would be fun to make an oversized Chutes and Ladders game board based on stairs and railings, and using Tech Deck figures as the game figures. The metaphor doesn’t quite work with skateboarding where sliding down the railing is a positive experience and not a punishment. – Thanks to Mark Pendergrass for the tip
Watch Phineas and Ferb burn rubber
Phineas & Ferb is a so-so cartoon from Disney. They’ve got some toy sets out with the two of them on things like rocket powered surfboards, and of course a skateboard. The figures look cool, but the pegs on the bottom of the longboard were kind of hard to fit into the holes. The plastic is soft on the legs and the bodies are top heavy, so they bend over a lot and can’t really stand up on their own.
We’ve come a long way
Here’s an episode of the 1986 show Computer Chronicles featuring a suit from Electronic Arts talking about the latest, greatest in computer games, Skate or Die, available for the Commodore 64. – Thanks to Stephen B for the tip.
