Free advertising

I get emails all the time from companies trying to extol the virtues of featuring their ads as editorial content. Sometimes they’re just fishing, sometimes there are actual cash rewards implied, usually from car companies or the like. Sometimes I find myself on the recipient list for PR that I’m pretty sure I never signed up for, as was the case with an announcement for this new Osiris commercial. I’m not sure why I clicked through on this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is a good advert, just wait for the punchline. Osiris Shoes “This never gets old” after the jump. I wear a size 13 (in uh, Vans) by the way…

Skate Jawn

Skate Jawn has good photography and a nice clean layout, plus interviews with people I don’t know. There’s even an interview with Todd Falcon and they don’t make fun of him. They hit me up to advertise, so I checked it out. You should too.

This week’s Shot of the Week is from Elias Parise. It features Kevin Solomon at a Portland DIY spot. Take a moment to gather your complaints about the fact that I’ve posted it here. Friday T&A on S&A: Candy Grip

From the promo shot above you might guess that Candy Grip is the name of an adult film star, but it’s the name of a color changing grip tape product trying to get funded through Kickstarter. It’s not temperature sensitive, but dependent on the angle of the light hitting it in relation to the viewer, like some of those funky paint jobs on cars. The effect is subtle, or at least their photos and videos don’t capture it too well. “Candy” is noticeably absent in the videos except as a poster frame, so you need to head on over to Flickr to see more of her. Speaking of the videos, I’m not sure what’s going on with the soundtrack, like an iPad commercial gone horribly wrong.

Board Rescue

Here’s a short promo for Board Rescue, an organization that we’ve featured here before. so here’s a refresher. Board Rescue, a 501(c)(3) non profit company has been in operation since 2008. Their mission is to provide skateboards and safety equipment to organizations that work with underprivileged and or at-risk youth throughout the United States. Board Rescue’s founder, Gary Holl, had the opportunity to work with two talented multimedia design students Paula Viidu and Niclas Facius on a short video that shows the positive impact Board Rescue has made to one of its many recipient organizations. “I hope that everyone gets a chance to see this short film because it tells our story. It validates that our efforts at Board Rescue play a huge part in the success of the organizations that we donate to. The parents, teachers and other academic support staff see the positive results. And of course the children and ultimately their communities benefit greatly. ” said Holl.
