When Mark Conahan isn’t busy getting heckled for wearing pads or drawing comics, he’s appearing in magazines like Portland Monthly, where the richsters pretend to be hipsters. It’s not clear how Steve Grover got in past security, but he makes an appearance as well in the August Best of 07 issue that chose Pier Park as the city’s best skatepark. They try to imply that Pier Park is “gnarlier” than Burnside because it’s bowl is deeper, but that’s a pretty uninformed comparison. Who writes these articles? I mean seriously, your average Portland Monthly reader isn’t about to hop in the BMW and drive to the local skatepark, unless they are bringing their little kid. I’m sure a lot of them are going to drop in on the best place to get a tattoo as well. Yeah, I’m just jealous because we didn’t get chosen for Best Local and International Skate Coverage, even though that wasn’t one of the categories.

Well here it is finally, the first of way too many pictures of the Oregon Trifecta. This is Lincoln City coverage. It’s a lot to digest. There are a lot of pictures included that probably shouldn’t have made the cut, but we figure people want to see more and not less. Right? They don’t all have to be Kodak moments if it’s someone you know. If you find it overwhelming then maybe you should wait for our “Best Of Gallery.” Until then, enjoy!

Jeff Parker will be reading from his novel, Ovenman at Mississippi Pizza Pub on August 30 from 6-8 p.m. as a cosponsored event with Powell’s Books. We were originally talking about this as a benefit for Skaters for Portland Skateparks but it will be a free event and the beer and pizza will be free. We may have a donation jar or sell sweatshirts or something.

I met the editor from Tin House at Pier Park where she was soaking up some skate atmosphere shortly after opening day. She asked me if I would be interested in reading a skateboarding related novel they were working on.

That’s right, we’re pushing back our coverage a day. The pics are sorted and the coding is done, but I want to try and track down some names and polish it up a little instead of rushing it out. Look for it mid-day on Wednesday. I’ll tell you though, I’m about Trifecta-ed out by now. Anyone else? That’s Benji Galloway Kevin Kowalski peaking out below his knee.

Here’s the latest iteration of the Gabriel Park skatepark design from AirSpeed Skateparks. The public meeting where they presented this was not well attended so they are looking for more input. The comment period ends on next Monday, so get on over there and give them some feedback. You can see larger versions of the renderings after the jump.

The Skateboard Archives beat us to the punch with four pages of Lincoln City Trifecta pictures, including incidentals like this shot of Choppy Omega, Duane Peters and Ben Schroeder, which is a nice touch. Do those guys wave to their mothers with that finger?

Nope. It’s not blocked or being withheld. We’re just waiting for a few straggling pictures to come in, and then we’ll do one day at time starting Tuesday. In the meantime, if anyone else has it up, send in the ink. It looks like there was actually supposed to be a live webcast via 411 according to the Trifecta web site. Did anyone catch it? When I went to college (the first time…) we had a nickname for the mindless goons and frat boys thugs that used to clog up the campus. We called them Joey Neckchains after the gold chains that were inevitably peaking out of their Izod shirts with the collar flipped up. Now, I suspect we’d have to change that to Joey Williams. There were protests and such after he was reinstated to his job on the police force after being cleared of wrong doing, in spite of being caught on tape acting like a bully instead of a police man. I’m of the position that just because someone acts like an idiot, a policeman’s job is to not act like an even bigger jackass. Surely his skin is thick enough and he possesses enough self control to not let a teenager get the better of him. I guess not. Scary thing is, that guy has a gun. Awesome. Anyway, I need to stop Jason Waite from littering the comments on Skate and Annoy with his petition spam, so check out the movement to get the Hot Springs, Arkansas Police Department to reopen the investigation. Yeah… Good luck with that. Tell you what, I’ll learn inverts and kickflips if you get that accomplished. Keep me posted.

So my buddy and I set on a search for the Skate Ghost along the Oregon coast, although we were one step behind actually sessioning with him, we did capture some of our own footage. Please contact me at this site if you actually see any skate ghost sessioning. Enjoy the show Peace Off Homies.

Aw hell. After the Battle Ground pro event got rained out I went home, hung out with my wife, went to our block party (that I had a hall pass out of until the Battle Ground rain), gave my two year old a bath and then sat down and had a leisurely dinner with my wife while we watched a recorded episode of Entourage. I called Rich at EPM who was hanging out at Glenhaven to see if he was going, and got a few updates from Billy Runaway at Addict. While I was being family man, Tobin’s garage was raging. I had pretty much written it off as a major hassle, but I decided to call one last time. I got a text message as I was walking out the door that said the “Super Finals” had just started. Someone needs to explain to Dave Duncan what the word “finals” means, and that there is such a thing as a semifinals. I thought I’d give it a go anyway. Who knows, maybe they were also going to have Extreme™ Super Finals… I drove about 110 blocks in 12 minutes, and got there for the last three minutes and took this one lame photo through a window and over someone else’s shoulders. Good thing too, cause Benji Galloway ended up winning it. Second went to Josh “Screech” Sandoval and amazingly, third went to 12 year old Morgan Burgess from Lebanon Ohio!
