Appeal to the youth
Kids everywhere know that JCPenney… wait, try this. Known for their extreme… errr, well. The JCPenney miniramp at the Dew Tour.
Stop skating here
Not enough to put a raised ridge in the middle of the bank, they had to put a fence up too. Tennis courts next to Grant High School in Portland. The TMR crew wuz there.
Tony Hawk demands concrete!
This is actually almost two weeks old, but it’s still well worth mentioning. Hats off to the Tony Hawk Foundation, who has introduced a new requirement for skatepark grants; No more prefab wooden parks. Read the press release titled “If Not Concrete, Then Why?”
A priest, and a Morman skateboarder walk into a skateshop…
I got a hundred tips about this skateboarding priest (right), all of which I failed to follow up because I assumed it was the two guys on the left that I had squirreled away for a while, no idea where I originally found it, but it’s could easily have been here. So here it is, a wacky Hungarian priest who obviously spent some time on the board before he was ordained. How about the Morman Church trying (on some level) to be hip? They’ve got a well done video featuring a guy named Josh Maready talking mostly about skateboarding, and a little bit about the Mormon church. He’s so articulate and normal that he almost makes Mormans seem cool, or at least sane. Check it out on Mormon.org. and because the heads in SLC doesn’t believe in allowing embedded video, I’m going to add a 2006 video of an Australian reverend cussing out some skateboarders in front of a church. He ended up resigning in 2007. – Thanks to Zach Olsen for the tip.
Nordtrsom pushes Vans on kids
My son found this in the kids area at Nordstrom. They hada bunch of single page sheets for kids to color on, some of them were Elmo, but none of the others were for actual product brands.
Oregon Trifecta
Hey wow, I’ve got a tone of photos from the 2009 leg of Pier Park that I never put up. I had the second page almost ready to go with a third one in progress. I combined them, did some minor clean up, forget about any names, no time, no memory. Is the Oregon Trifecta still on for 2010? The official web site looks like the internet equivalent of an abandoned house, but I thought I heard Choppy on the mic during the best trick contest at the Dew Tour. I talked to Don Bostick and he said it was still on. I mentioned the abandoned web property and he mumbled something about Choppy having fundraising problems. I have to paint my house this weekend. Supercharged in Portland Aug 19
The Clinton Street Theater is showing Supercharged, the life and times of Tim Brauch on Thursday August 19th, (503) 238-8899. 2522 Southeast Clinton St. Portland, OR. 97202. Shows at 7 (all ages) and 9PM (21+). The DVD is available as well. I’ve got one and it’s pretty cool. NIce packaging, you can tell it’s a labor of love. I haven’t finished watching it, need to get a period of time when I can go without the interruption of kids, wife, etc… I actually don’t know squat about Tim Brauch, and the first 20 minutes that I watched was good, so I feel like I need to watch it without distraction. Flyer after the jump.
Brooklyn Street progress
Status report. The pedestrian bridge in the background is slated for removal. Something to do with a new bridge going up somewhere nearby tied into mass transit expansion. I’m not sure why you have to tear one down to build another one somewhere else, but it works out to our favor. Tearing down the bridge somehow equates to nobody caring what happens there. It’s kind of a no-mans land, not really owned by anyone. If the park doesn’t interfere with bridge demolition then Trimet is cool with it. Heck, the construction company in charge has indicated an interest in donating some concrete. Pretty much the only speed bump left is getting the spot added under the neighborhood development committee’s insurance. I guess since the property isn’t Portland Parks, it’s not covered like the rest of the skateparks. Great story so far. We’ll keep you posted on any progress. In the mean time, enjoy this Merde (Sponsor Luv!) footage from last week’s benefit. That still looks familiar.
GVK #58: PDX Dew Tour
Got this one out quick, results are just in And it goes like this. 1 S white 2 Bucky 3 PLG. The guys at the Dew Tour give me a pass every year. I wonder if they know I am not the real Media Director at Skate and Annoy. That’s the title I tell them I am branded with. I suppose it could be true I will have to check with Human Resources to be sure. This year I had the honor of being able to film practice here’s what I got. Oh yeah X-games gold medal winner Pedro qualified into the final and fell during practice and dislocated his elbow he did not ride the final. Arm in cast Vicodin in mouth. It was fun as hell to watch him practice. This contest always gets me so excited about Vert let’s build a ramp. GROVER OUT. UPDATE: The video is back, not quite sure why it disappeared.
Annoying Kid of the Month
In a scene ripped from the cutting room floor of Ideocracy, here’s two kids at the Dew Tour covering their bodies with temporary tattoos of corporate logos. They aren’t even Extreme!&trade logos, it’s for Ball Park Franks. Check out the Annoying Kid of the Month.
