New Regional Park for Arvada, Colorado
Team Pean just got the bid on what looks like a massive new skatepark in Arvada, Colorado. Construction on the 40,000 square foot park is expected to start “as soon as the snow melts in spring of 2011.”
ASR is kaput
I saw via Grant Brittain on Facebook that ASR is calling it quits due to… I’ll give you one guess, a weak economy. You can read the whole rigmarole on the ASR Facebook page. So ASR was no longer fiscally attractive huh? Maybe you didn’t need to do it twice a year. You’d think that idea would have occurred to them, but instead they got the idea to increase action sports presence in the Outdoor Retailer trade shows in Salt Lake City with the rest of the, you know, kayaks, backpacks and uh, snow shoes or whatever. San Diego is bummed, as the ASR show had 22 million dollar impact, as reported in SIgn On San Diego. ASR has the best interests of the industry in mind, right? The parent company is Nielsen Expositions, and they have no real connections to your lifestyle in any way outside of trying to capitalize on any given demographic. It’s what they do. Silver lining? Fuck ’em. The industry should sponsor their own trade show. Seize the day. Thanks to OMA for the image, it’s from a 2007 ASR write up.
Richie Jackson, still, still rad
… even though this video is old. Thanks to Sarib for the reminder.
Indy Skatepark Adovcates
Quite possibly, the last time I was skating in Indianapolis was when I took this picture. If I was there now, I would be headed to tonight’s concert and art show to benefit the Indianapolis Skatepark Advocates. HOW? Come to Earth House on November 5, 2010. WHAT? 5 Awesome bands, some really cool artists, and lots of support to make our future skatepark happen. COST: $5–every cent goes to Indy Skatepark Advocates WHERE? 237 N East St Downtown Indy WHO? Everyone you know (it’s all ages) WHEN? November 5 7pm-11pm
Movie magic
Check out some behind the scenes footage of Chris Evans on the set of Scott Pilgrim filming a skateboard stunt using a harness to nail a 50-50 on a rail. I know it’s a weak post, but I’ve liked Michael Cera since Arrested Development. Check it out. And since it’s filler, I’m not stopping there. After the jump you can watch a reporter making demonstrating a skatepark etiquette fail. – Thanks to Eric Cherry and John Egertson for the tip.
Skull
At the end old Space Ghost Coast to Coast episode they always had a split second production company tag for Williams Street that consisted of some people yelling “skull” with the reverb turned up and no explanation whatsoever. Beto Janz makes these skulls out of old skateboards, and they look pretty damned cool. It’s a project for Ultraseries Skate in Brazil. Yo Gabba Gabba on Vans
Yo Gabba Gabba heads have a fondness for skateboarding, and now they have Vans shoes too. They are expensive, but cool. Too bad they don’t make them in adult sizes. ANohter thing sorely missing, the Gabbas all have models, but there’s no DJ Lance Rock shoes! Killer video after the jump.
Win a Weirdo
Man you guys are an impatient bunch. I’m going to figure out how to set up the voting some time this evening hopefully. Until then, keep you shirt on.
Sponsor Luv: S&A welcomes… Welcome
I ‘m stoked to welcome Welcome Skateboards to our list of sponsors. Welcome has an attitude I can relate to, some cool shapes and a graphic called the Princetaur slays me. Find out more about Welcome after the jump.
eBay Watch: September 2010
September was one of those months that although some good stuff went off, it wasn’t as impressive as July or August, so consequently I found it more of a chore to compose. I would do a bit, leave it, planning to come back in an hour, but not touch it again for a week. Some months really flow and some are difficult. Let’s leave it at that. Next month might be even more up in the air because I am going to England for a couple of weeks mid-month, and I don’t plan on taking a laptop, so there’s a chance there won’t be an October BayWatch, and I’ll do a double in December. I haven’t decided yet. Maybe I’ll do a short one. As always, special thanks go out to Kilwag for putting this up on the web, and to Matthijs for his constant emails with links, ensuring nothing slips between the cracks. Somebody emailed me last month suggesting that I add a “Decks for Sale” section that people can contribute to. Maybe I will. I have a couple of decks for sale right now if anybody is interested. A teal stain G&S Steve Claar whales and silver dip…
