Holy Cow (skates) It’s the legendary GSD and his seminal zine Skate Fate. I’ll bet he hates being called legendary.GSD is celebrating the 30 (!) year anniversary of Skate Fate by releasing a 320 page best of volume, which you can pick up for a reasonable price at Blurb, except the shipping (fixed pirce from Blurb) is pretty steep. I envision a post apocalyptic future where gangs of longboarders maraud the outskirts of a dying civilization, raiding the unprepared and the weak, pillaging and plundering for the only currency left from the the modern world’s halcyon days, the recycled skateboard. Seriously, soon enough broken boards are going to become almost as valuable as a new board. Shwood makes sunglasses out of old skatebaords, something we’ve recently seen before, but this incarnation is constructed in a different manner. Shwood is out in the burbs of Portland, and fittingly, local filmer/photog Joe Stevens put together a video that shows the skateboard pre-demise, post-reincarnation and everything in between.

Factory Youth Movement is a community center in Merida, Spain with skatepark facilities blending into the landscape architecture. Like many public parks projects, Northglenn Colorado’s skatepark had funds allocated for artistic purposes. They held a contest and the winner was chosen for this acid etch/stain finish for the clamshell bowl. More pictures on via Team Pain.

Another Team Pain project in Colorado. They might as well move there, they pretty much own that state as far as skateparks go. This one is in Northglenn.

This still makes it look like it’s all going to go horribly wrong, but it doesn’t. My first thought was that this was fake, but then I got distracted by the title of the vid. Who is this Manuel?

In this installment of drive by camera phone shots, what looks like the beginnings of a miniramp being constructed in a driveway. Turns out it was for a Nike photo shoot on nearby Sauvie Island. Not a miniramp, but some sort of run up to quarter pipe with a gap. As it was a few blocks from my house and in the front yard on busy street, I had to pull over and ask what was up. The guy building seemed a little weirded out by my enthusiasm. Sure is a lot going on skateboarding wise here in and around Portland. I was just thinking about that while reading Neil’s ebay watch. Two things that came to mind when he mentioned a Mark Partain – He lives in Hood River, and Julien Stranger – He was at MC’s bowl on Saturday. Now that I think about it, Chad Vogt has a model on Portland’s M&M Skateboards too.
