SOTW 10-18-08: Errr?
This shot looks weird to me. I know the shoe is undersized, but the yellow and black object under the trucks looks like a parking block. Throw in the associated depth of field focus and you’ve got an interesting photo, thanks to Carl Warren. Check out the full frame version, this week’s Shot of the Week.
SOTW 11-03-08: Wall rides are back
This week’s Shot of the Week comes to us from Kevin Porterfield, the proprietor of Dokument Skateshop in Salem, Oregon. It was a slow day so they dragged out the launch ramp for some wall ride action in front of the shop. Skater’s name is Travis Jolley. There are some bonus shots after the jump. Don’t forget to check out the full frame Shot of the Week.
SOTW 10-27-08: Burnside Halloween 2007
This week’s Shot of the Week is from Halloween at Burnside last year. I’m not sure if I’m going today, I just don’t have a thing to wear! in any case there’s always last year’s shots, and of course, GVK’s Halloween Hodads. Check out the Shot of the Week.
SOTW 10-20-08: KC at Randy’s Bowl
This week’s Shot of the Week was sent in from Kasey “KC” Stevenson, the same gal who suggested the Chicks with Sticks gallery. Turns out she was talking about girls, you know, actually skating. This is a close up of a shot from Randy’s old bowl in Valley Forge, PA. I guess the spot is dead now. You can vote for her pictures over at a site called Girls Learn to Ride. Don’t forget to check out the uncropped version of the Shot of the Week.
SOTW 10-06-08
This week’s Shot of the Week is from September of this year. It’s Billy Coulon transferring from the perpendicular face of the low hip to the high wall in Newberg, Oregon. Rich at EPM has a better shot (and then some) from a different angle, I just happened to be standing there while he was shooting, so I poached him. Check out the full frame Shot of the Week.
SOTW: Plastic toys, real skateboarding
This week’s Shot of the Week is a Kevin Porterfield shot of Gabe Stoltz taken at the Dallas, Oregon skatepark last week. I didn’t know Dallas had a skatepark, but SkateOregon did. Yes, he landed it. Although yesteryear’s toy skateboards were cheap plastic toys, they still rolled better on those loose bearings than the equivalent wooden toy boards you find at Target or WalMart today. There’s a bonus shot after the jump, or skip to the full frame version of the Shot of the Week.
SOTW 8-22-08: Bonsor Full Pipe
This week’s Shot of the Week is courtesy of Dylan Davies. It’s a nice 4×5 camera shot of Grant from New Zealand at the Bonsor skatepark full pipe in British Columbia, Canada. Every time I see pictures of this park it makes me think it’s some old relic, but I guess it’s actually from this millennium. You gotta admire the skate photographer who uses a 4×5 view camera. You need to lug the camera to the location, load the film in a true dark room, none of that red light cheating, do your metering, focus on the ground glass and pop the film back onto the camera. Then you slide the slidey thing out (it’s been a while) and hit the shutter release. Then slide it back in, take the film back off and bring it to a dark room to develop, one negative at a time. That’s a lot of hassle to get a decent shot. Not something you’d want to try on a kickflip variation that might be a bust on the first 20 tries. Check out the full frame version.
SOTW 9-8-08: Wally Innouye at Donald
This week’s Shot of the Week is from Carl Warren, and it’s a shot of Tom “Wally” Inouye with his wheels at the edge of the coping on the hip of the bowl in Donald, Oregon. Check out the full frame version.
SOTW 9-1-08: Chris Miller at Pier Park
This week’s Shot of the Week is Chris Miller going over the mouse hole at Pier Park, making it look effortless, and it comes to us from Rich Burton who has more shots from the same session EPM. Just yesterday Miller was still being talked about at Pier Park. I’d like to see him enter the Trifecta just once. Do you concur? Even though I know it’s incorrect, I’m getting a strong Gull Wing magnesium truck vibe from his setup. Must be the color of the trucks. This is a close up of the image, you can catch the full frame version after the jump. Check out the Shot of the Week.
SOTW 8-25-08: Blue in Nova Scotia
This week’s Shot of the Week is Greg Baller at a bowl in Halifax, Nova Scotia as shot by Steve Hayes, AKA “Shayes.” Said Greg, We paint the park regularly because the graffiti is awful here! Right now it is beige/brown, and with a few throw pillows would be quite tasteful. What about some shag carpeting? Check it out.
