Slovenšcina za Skateboard
Slovenian reader Urban Kravos sent in a link to his web site where among other things like stencil art, he’s got a gallery of his apartment that is a work in progress making sure his girlfriend never asks to move in with him. (Sorry, Urban, couldn’t resist!) Kravos is an architect by trade but has been skating since age 7, and decided to surround himself with what he loves. I’ve been also making skateboards for my hobby since 1999, first from birch plywood and about two years ago I started with vacuum technic. I’ve seen that you already found two of my friends from Slovenia, Ali Jusovic and Konan. The skateboard scene here is really small compared to the states, and everybody knows each other, and of course we all skate together when we find time…For us it is the best scene in the world, but I guess everybody thinks so about their skate surroundings. The best thing is, that we don’t actually have any good public skateparks, except that shity modular wood year 1995 type, but some riders are really good and creative, just look at Almir…And I actually don’t know anybody, that would like to be a professional…
It’s long Deutschland Uber Ollies
Benni Dittrich from Hemer/Germany blasted this crazy Ollie in a session in the Rheinpark Duisburg! The unofficial world record is made by Kris Markovich at the LG World longest Ollie Contest in 2003. Kris ollied 16 Feet and 5 inches. The distance between the stairs Benni ollied is 16 Feet and 5,1 inch (5 Meter) and he is landing way behind. Is this the new record? Is this a world’s record? I don’t know, don’t really care, but it’s good and long. – Thanks to Andreas Scheitel for the tip. UPDATE: I can’t believe I missed the obvious pun. I’ve remedied the post title. Tip of the hat to Jake and Annoy!
Change of Guard
Juergen Horrwarth’s Change of Guard is a few old vert dogs hanging over a weekend with some up-and-comers in a chance to exchange tips and tricks. Who is Juergen Horrwarth? Well, he’s Juergen Horrwarth, German vert skater. If the triples action in the admittedly blurry screen capture above piques your interest, watch the short video after the jump.
Born to skate in Germany
I can’t remember how I found this, but I ended up watching the trailer for Born to Skate and getting stoked on the different terrain and approach to a skate video. It was supposed to be an independently released feature-length film. It’s multi-discipline as well, featuring street, vert and even freestyle in the trailer. Of course, it’s over a year old and from Germany, so I have no idea whatever happened to it. It looks like it’s worth checking out though. Source: Design You Trust
Octopus vs Skulls
So we did skulls in a bowl, which was ridiculous, and that’s probably what prompted Jeff Haynes to send me a link to this video called Octopus. It’s a facelift for a bowl in the skatepark of Lugano, which is in Switzerland. The artist(s) this time is called Nevercrew.
The Carvells: Part 2, and Magnum Bonum
In the dark days leading up to the apocalypse of Skate and Annoy’s web meltdown I featured the Carvells video for L.A. Run. Well, of course that led me to do some further investigating on the internet, and by “investigating,” I obviously meant draining my Paypal account by having a record shipped from the U.K.. In the meantime, House of Neil uncovered a contemporary (at the time) cover of L.A. Run by the Swedish band Magnum Bonum. And yes, it’s in Swedish.
The mother of all bowls
Apparently this spot showed up in the bizarro Slovenian skate vid I highlighted last week. I missed it, but 26 Feels Old spotted it. Apparently the location is infected by fixies.
Not to scale
Here’s some cool architecture in Croatia that looks like it might be skateable. Even more so if you were 20 stories tall. – Thanks to Sk8 D for the tip. [Source: ArchDaily]
There are other scenes…
There are other scenes… that are so far away physically and mentally from what you are into. But then somehow they seem like a puzzle piece with a weird shape to it that you’ve been missing for years. Maybe this makes sense to Marek, or maybe I’m having an acid flashback. I think I’m going to take off my clothes and run through the woods now. – Thanks to Set Grossman for the tip UPDATE: I couldn’t understand why nobody had anything to say about this! I fixed the funkiness that was causing the page to fail. A little heads up would have been nice!
Free Wheelie
I couldn’t find anything on the Interwebs about what I thought was the product name. And then I realized “Free Wheelie” was a pun on the killer whale motif. Pretty slow on the uptake, huh Kil,wag? Straight from eBay Poland. Turns out these things are called Rat Tailz. A company named Sport Fun made skateboards as far back as 1978, although there’s no way to tell if the they are the same entity. – Thanks to M1CK3Y for the tip.
