KY Wood

A privately funded effort to reply the monster vert ramp at the Louisville, Kentucky Extreme Park. Remember, when the park was built the Mayor had high hopes of luring the X Games to town. I don’t think that ever played out, did it? No official word on how to donate, but if you’re interested, I have an email address to contact.

Front yard action

I had a miniramp that was in my front yard once. It was pretty much my whole front yard. The platforms reached from the front porch to the sidewalk in front of the house. Of course it was only eight feet wide and and PVC coping. This ramp belongs to Micah Breshears who lives in central Oregon. It’s right next to his front porch, and so there it is.

Kansas City police and media stumped, obviously not radical

In this amusing video you can hear the newscasters baffled, scratching their heads trying to figure out why anyone would bother to steal all the parking blocks from a parking lot. Even the business owner is shocked that the more valuable items in the window were left behind. There really is a glaringly obvious reason… It must be a cult. Turns out parking blocks cost about $25 a pop. Somewhere there’s a DIY spot in the greater Kansas City area that just received a nice donation. Check out “Strange Theft Of Parking Stops Confuses Police, Victim” on KMBC.com. [Source: Yahoo News]- Thanks to Jeff Roenning for the tip.

Red tape might accidentally kill a DIY spot in WA

DIY spots are abundant, and everyone knows when you start one that the odds are stacked against you. Still, the amount of DIY spots that are granted amnesty have increased, so you have to like those odds better than playing the lottery. Even when you celebrate, you know there’s a chance that the rug can be pulled out from under you. Hell, technically, even Burnside still exists only on double secret probation. Industrious skaters in Glacier, Washington built a spot called the Coal Pad on somewhat abandoned mining property that later was purchased in auction. When the new landowner Joe King found out about the spot when the county threatened him with fines unless the the park was removed or sanctioned with the proper permits. Incredibly, King agreed to let the park stay, provided the skating community took care of certain obligations agreed to be… adults. That’s a heartwarming stoke, until you get to the part where the company that previously had a mining lease on the property claims they weren’t properly informed of the sale, and are taking legal action to have the sale voided. First order of business? Tear down the skatepark and start strip mining. Greed concurs…

Rainbow Ground

Reader D.I.Y. from the U.K. This spot first started with something called the rainbow ledge, a curb that kind of looks like a rainbow. It’s apparently mostly a one man operation, or at least it has been in the past. I don’t know where this guy finds all these curved preformed concrete curbs, I want one. There’s some videos after the jump, but you might as well head on over to the Rainbow Ground to catch all the pictures, including construction phases. – Thanks to G-S-E PC for the tip.

Ahh, your mother wears combat boots…

Marginal Way in Seattle has a benefit this Saturday Sunday and Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in Portland is having one this Sunday, which is Mother’s day… so yeah, bring your mom I guess. Saturday. Flyers and video scrapbook of BSSS through the various phases (courtesy of KC) after the jump.

Rampbook compound

Check out these pics of a ramp compound found on Rampbook, aka Negative Ion. This behemoth is made from the carcasses of no less than 11 other Colorado ramps, a few of which have been shown on S&A before. Check it out and noodle around Negative Ion a little, there’s all kinds of good stuff squirreled away there.

SOTW 1-10-11: Shillside and goth band sand

The city of Zurich, Switzerland had no transition until a group of locals got together and took it upon themselves to take the D.I.Y. route instead of waiting for someone else to do it for them. The result is called Sihlside. This week’s Shot of the Week is a Nicolas Buechi photo of… crud. Forgot to get the name. A little help Nicholas? (Update: Ivo Weibel) If you can believe it, the whole project cost less than 700CHF! I can believe it because I have no concept of at CHF is. Watch the video after the jump to get a glimpse of some new wave sand at the 1:24 mark, or check out the Shot of the Week.

Peach Orchard D.I.Y. spot

Back in May of last year there was a Shot of the Week from a DIY spot in New Orleans that has since become known as Peach Orchard. I’m happy to report that the spot is still going and they’ve added some new concrete. They’re holding benefits and accepting donations via Paypal and the head bean counter Joey O’Mahoney.
