Park Slalom in West Linn on Saturday
Park slalom is back in West Linn. Skate Legion has the low down, but it’s pretty much the same info you see in the flyer above. Man, I haven’t been to West linn in… I’m gong to say two, possibly three years. I wonder if the neighbors have relaxed now that there are so many other Portland area skateparks open. Stp by the contest and say hello to former S&A contributer and contest co-organizer Mike Estes.
Maloof strikes back
Maloof just unveiled the plans for the street course at the NYC leg of the Maloof Money Cup on June 5-6, 2010. The big news? The REALLY big news? The “course” is a permanent facility that will be donated to the city Instead of building a temporary course and dismantling it like they did last time. BRAVO!!!!! Lets hope the X-Games and the rest of the would-be contenders fall in step behind these plans if they know what’s good for them, the skateboarding public and the ecology. Details of the as yet unbuilt skate spot that replicates some NYC hot spots after jump. – Thanks to Danimal for the tip.
Oregon Trifecta – Pier Park coverage
Someone complained that I was completely slacking on the Pier Park stop of the 2009 Oregon Trifecta. So here it is, coming down to the wire for 2009. Ken Fillion on the invert here. Hooray! So obviously, I let some four months go by before I got around to this, so everything is less than fresh in my mind. Fortunately I wrote the wrap up months ago. Unfortunately I didn’t write the captions until last night during a rerun of Glee. I am gay. (?) Oops! Forgot the link. Check out the Oregon Trifecta at Pier Park.
Vintage Gonz with a 12 foot ollie
This is contest video from one of the the last hurrahs of the N.S.A., the organization that would eventually end up as World Cup Skateboarding, believe it or not. Mark made this ollie gap twice, once in practice and once in the contest. It’s the branch of the y-shaped miniramp that Team Pain built for the the Honolulu, Hawaii contest in 1988. On the bottom left you can see a flash going off. That’s Grant Brittain. Don’t believe me? You can see the shot he took at that instant at The Skateboard Mag. Watch the video after the jump. – Thanks to Tito for the tip.
Crust covers BCSA Gnar-B-Q
Crust Productions has coverage of the Benton County Skateboard Alliance Gnar-B-Q fundraiser. Check it out after the jump.
Albany, Oregon contest coverage
Notice I posted this before I got around to the Pier Park stop of the Trifecta? Albany locals have pride. Red Cement threw a contest back at the end of August, and I’ve got photos from Danimal, Kevin Porterfield and Mychal Brown after the jump.
Aumsville Drop In
Contests are back at Aumsville, Oregon, thanks to Ravage Skateboards and the rest of the sponsors of the “Don’t Drop Out, Drop In” contest. Thanks to everyone who entered or helped out. Thanks to Mike Estes for the photos and for heckling me for not being at the event we sponsored. We were out of town, not lazy! more of Estes pics, a few from Carl Warren and video from Crust Productions after the jump.
Busy weekend
Contests and events are stacking up this month. Here’s another. If you are in Portland on the 19th, you can celebrate the 33 and a 3rd anniversary of Cal Skate, Portland’s longest running skateshop, which we love, but unfortunately it’s happening ON THE SAME DAY AS THE CONTEST IN AUMSVILLE WE ARE SPONSORING, but I guess that’s not a big deal, is it, Mike? I mean, it’s not like you asked us to sponsor it or anything… and we do love Cal Skate, honestly. Right. Contest in Aumsville. We’re one of the sponsors. Again, I decided to put up a little money for this contest because I’m always ragging on the scene or the city. So put up or shut up, right? It’s easy to complain, but harder to try and make a difference. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make it to the contest due to a prior engagement. I know, it sounds suspect, but you’re not the boss of me, so I don’t have to explain myself to you. Aumsville Note: DO everyone a favor and don’t bring any alcohol to the skatepark. The city folks seem particularly hung up on that, though maybe they should be worried…
Supergirl Jam
Here’s a couple photos from something called the Supergirl Jam that was recently held in Venice Beach. They had a snowboard rail event with trucked in snow, a skateboard contest and an inline skating contest. Ladies please, if you want to be taken seriously, ditch the rollerblades. You’re so far behind the curve on this one that you might be ahead of the curve. You know, for the next big, uh, resurgence of inline skating… Supergirl Jam related post: Supergirl comic book skateboard cover. Albany heads – Hold your horses, I’m still waiting on a few pics.
