Surfboard hanger for your skateboard
This is actually a fake surfboard constructed out of uses skateboard pieces, designed to hold an actual skateboard when it’s mounted to the wall. I’ve seen a handful of skateboard hangers, a couple of them made from old skateboards, but this is the best one yet. Made in Portland by TurnCo aka Skip Marcotte. You an get this one and other upcycled skateboard products from his Etsy shop, or from selected skate shops in Portland. I had a parent of a kid who is in school with my boy call me up and ask where he could get some used skateboards for his son’s art project. I had to tell him that he’d likely be hard pressed to find some these days.
Over-scaled skateable architecture
Zaha Hadid architects have designed the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan? I didn’t even know that was a place. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip. [Source: The Contemporist]
More marginally skateable art
Well, it looks like someone should be skating on it, or is that just wishful thinking? Ollie to full loop anyone? Picnic, by Michael Beitz. is installed at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in Madison, WI. Bigger, better pics at Colossal.
3D Hoverboards
This kickass screen printed poster was designed by Clark Orr, printed by Mama’s Sauce. It’s available online at Gallery 1988. Very nice.
Skull, skates
Light Goes On is a combination of long exposure photographs (light painting) and stop action animation made by Darren Pearson. Clever beyond belief. Watch it after the jump. [Source: DP Preview] – Thanks to Glenn Corpes for the tip.
She’s mighty mighty…
…just lettin’ it all hang out. She’s a brick, house. Installation by Alex Chinneck. Too bad it’s fenced in. Maybe someone will get a session in before it get’s torn down in about a year. [Sources: This is colossal, Design Boom] – Thanks to Boy for the tip.
Gliferg burned
Artist Gerry Judah and Rune Glifberg collaborated on some skateable sculpture as part of an event tied in with… Formula One racing? I thought I heards that somewhere in one of the videos, but I’m not seeing it in any of the articles. So this event has already passed, and there are some videos, part of a 5 part series, but I can only spot 3. It looks pretty cool, although it’s pretty much just a halfpipe that looks like it was squashed and stretched a little. Still, as far as skateable “art” goes, Gerry should be tutoring those guys at Red Bull. The post title? The project was part of something called Burn Yard, a marketing event/effort by Coca Cola’s Burn energy drink. [Source: Artlyst, Fad] – Thanks to Heath and Boy for the tip.
If you Have an unused half pipe…
Mr Duckhunt, excuse me, Dr Duckhunt has instructions on how to make an Army style tent from your collection of leftover unused halfpipes. Ever want an army style tent but just cant afford it. if you Have an unused half pipe setting around you can Turn it into an army tent clubhouse. If your fortunate enough to be Canadian and traded a case of moose head for a half pipe and salmon . Then it’s not expensive. This project cost me under $60. MC thinks this guy should be put on suicide watch. Judge for yourself at Instructables.
