Who’s Goofy?

I’m combining two goofy posts into one, featuring Goofy and Mike V. Who you calling goofy? I’m certainly not calling you goofy, Mr Vallely, Sir. What we have here are two items that are only marginally related at best, because they both feature the Disney character known as Goofy. There’s a glutton of Goofy products with skateboards, only one of which I’ve featured here before. I’ve got others on deck though. (I slay myself…) On the left, original artwork and press proofs for an 80’s era Aladin lunchbox featuring Goofy and the gang at a skatepark. On the right, someone auctioned off Mike V’s season pass to Disneyland.

Possibly stored in a shed

Another installment of things you probably don’t care about, but my OCD won’t let me ignore. These are tumblers with skateboarding images on them, made by Ravenhead Glasses in Sunbury, England. The seller isn’t sure if they are retro or vintage, but he thinks they were stored in a shed. The Ravenhead brand started in 1913, and according to Wikipedia, moved from Sunburry to St Helens in 1980, eventually going into administration (UK equivalent of Bankruptcy?) in 2000. That would suggest these glasses were made before 1980, but that seems unlikely based on the graphic style, although there is one guy doing a v-sit, which is definitely some 70’s action. – Thanks to David ODK for the tip.

lmnade

Milk, Milk, Lmnade

LMNADE is a design-driven lifestyle brand specializing in fashion and hard good products that focuses on vintage beach/boardwalk culture. “Roll, Bounce, Skate.” – The Lmnade brand is aimed at young women who want to roller-skate, skateboard, and bounce? They actually have a couple of cool novelty boards and some cruisers, plus roller skirts. To promote the product they use lots of lifestyle girls doing everything with a skateboard that you could think of, as along as all you can think of is sitting on them and holding them, and not you know, actually skateboarding. You know, I often think about trying to add female voice to the staff here at S&A, but seeing as how I keep posting stuff like this, I don’t know that anyone would want to.

Burned

Skate Culture has a some images of John Moyaert’s iconic 80’s skate graphics done by hand with a word burner. Repeat: These are not made with a computer and a laser. It’s not strictly Powell & Peralta, by the way.

Targeted for X-Mas

Retailers are sending out Christmas mailings already. Target has a few skateboard related images in their catalog; A giant skateboard prop for Shaun White’s clothing line, and a posed photo of a little kid who looks like he just released a tail grab. he’s getting some awesome footage of his knees. I want that giant skateboard. I do not want the chest harness. I a also not looking forward to a GoProbe, with or without harness.

space-rocket

Space Rocket XS-17

If you search for the Space Rocket XS-17, pretty much every image shows it with skis instead of wheels, but this one here has wheels on it. This is where it gets tricky when you’re trying to pinpoint the first commercially available skateboard, because there were certainly several skateboard-like devices manufactured in the 50’s and even earlier. While this may not have been manufactured for riding in an upright position, it’s an easy conclusion to jump to that assumes these were ridden standing up at some point. – Thanks to David ODK for the tip.

2 for 1 Dork Sessions

We’re running a 2 for 1 special on Dork Sessions today. First up we’ve got some extreme wheelbarrowing from Alexander Siegfried. The gag is executed pretty well, even if it does run a little long. Next we have a tribute to Breaking Bad in the form of a toy Winnebego mounted with skateboard trucks. Yes, that is that a Tonka Truck. [Source: Sploid] – Thanks to Tim for the tip.

Learn to draw with Phineas and Ferb

The Disney book Learn to Draw With Phineas and Ferb comes packaged with a random eraser in the shape of a character from the show. This particular pressing features Perry the platypus, who has appeared on a skateboard in the series. Someone must have “thought of the children” and decided to make sure he had a helmet on this time.

Susie Skateboard Queen

If this this tart could be shipped from/to the USA, I’d think about buying her. There’s not much information about these Susie dolls from Woolbro, they only seem to exist online in cases where they are for sale. This one looks like it dates back to the 70’s, perhaps a contemporary of Dashing Daisy. – Thanks to David ODK for the tip.

Chunky Jumper

After inspecting the insides, it appears this knitting pattern from Marriner is for chunky yarn, and not chunky kids. It’s pretty awful, and the best/worst part is that they think someone might actually want kneepads and elbow pads knitted out of yarn! Believe it or not, this is the third post about knitting. – Thanks to BPA for the tip.
