Laugh #309 with Jinx in The Board game

It’s rare to find an Archie Comics Group story with skateboarding that doesn’t focus on Archie, Jughead, or poor Mr Weatherby. Laugh comics #309, published in December of 1976, has a story with a character named Li’l Jinx titled “The Board Game.” The comics seems to be aimed mostly at teens, but they have a small stable of characters made up of little kids as well.

Synopsis: Li’l Jinx is an accomplished skateboarder, and in a twist for that time, she teaches a boy name Greg how to skateboard. She’s sweet on him, but he immediately turns around and teaches a girl named Gigi how to skateboard. It turns out Gigi already knows how to skate really well, since she had a “special skateboard instructor” on her last vacation, and she’s faking it to get attention from Greg. Jinx busts her, and Gigi wipes out showing off. Since Gigi has a broken leg, Greg takes Jinx to the skateboard meet after all. The last two panels hint at the”skate bored” pun but don’t quite land it.
