Tippy Teen and the Teeners
I was doing some speculative snooping around online looking for skateboards advertisements in comic books circa 1965 and found another skateboard story and cover instead. The first issue of Tippy Teen has a publication date of November, 1965. This looks like a second rate copy of Archie and the gang, (not that Archie is first rate…) because it’s drawn by the same Samm Schwartz that drew Archie until he left MLJ to join Tower and spearhead… Tippy Teen.
There’s just the one skateboard story in they title, enjoy Tippy in “Great Skate.” It’s pretty much got every skateboard cliche from the era.
The anniversary issue 10 (1966) featured a reprint of the Great Skate story by “popular demand.” Yeah.. sure.
The only new skateboard content in Tippy Teen #10 is one panel featuring a character named Go-Go showing off her fashions as suggested by readers. Congratulations Barbara Jones of Park Ridge, Illinois. That might actually be a real person. Tippy Teen actually published a page with the names and addresses of people looking for pen-pals!
