Miami Art Week – Infinity Plaza

As part of Miami Arts Week, Mana Common has sponsored Infinity Plaza, which is a skateable art installation by Andrew Schoultz. It’s a permanent installation, although some of it appears to be made out of wood, so we all know how long that’s going to last. It opened on December 1st, so if you are in the Miami neighborhood (Mana Wynwood Convention Center 2217 NW 5th Avenue) you can check it out. If not, check out some pictures of the installation after the jump. The wall that looks like the tank has blasted hole through it has an interesting quality. It almost looks photoshopped in most of the pictures, but the detail view reveals it’s just a trick of the eye cause by high contrast decoration.

Based on his 2015 art exhibit, Cyclical Nature, the Infinity Plaza is a combination of skate park, painting, and sculpture: a permanent public artwork that Schoultz has created for the Mana Wynwood community.

“Infinity Plaza combines the public plaza, public art, and my love for skateboarding at public plazas together into one art experience,” explains Schoultz. “The hope is to create an interactive experience for the viewer, even if their skateboarding skill level and experience is minimal.” He continues: “Familiar themes in my work are present: the main sculpture is based on a military tank that you can skate; the idea of thinking about things in a multiple-use way, is part of the inspiration: a plaza is a skate spot, a bench is for sitting, but is also a very fun skate obstacle. In the end, the idea is to create a dynamic, fun experience that almost any viewer can interact with.”
