Bourbon Barrel Boards

Upcycle, recycle, bicycle. Yet another Kickstarter for a skateboard project, this time to make skateboards out of used bourbon barrels. It seems moderately cool at first and I was kind of on board until I watched the video. I must have been in a bad mood, because listening to these guys made me want to punch them in the face. I’m not a violent person, and I’m sure they are nice people, so I apologize to the folks at Hepcat, which unfortunately has nothing to do with the excellent band Hepcat. The company is not primarily a skateboard brand, they just want to make lifestyle products out of upcycled material, an idea that has been recycled a lot lately. Yes, this is backlash. I am one sour (mash) old man today. Silly and overpriced, but I bet they smell good.

– Thanks to MC for the tip.

Doesn’t this look like an aftermarket bunghole? Is this a historical reenactment?

Watch some real Hepcat. If you’re a fan of the band this is a cool compilation of random Hepcat footage. Oddly enough, I couldn’t find an actual music video from them.

More of the same, extended version, plus some repeats.

  • I’m going to finger lock the bung-hole with the HepCat Bros.

I know these guys personally, went to art school with them. They are a bunch of hard working dudes that were tired of all the bullshit in the overblown design community here in San Francisco. Sure the boards aren’t for everybody, but your everyday knucklehead with a Plan B board and an affinity for fuckboi culture isn’t going to have the wherewithal to build their own board from scratch, let alone know where to source bourbon barrel staves.

I doubt Hepcat Co is ever going to win over the Thrasher die-hards here in SF, but hey in a city where 30-something tech bros are riding around on Google-issued Razor scooters, this is a breath of fresh air.

Lastly, stop pushing mongo George. You’re only embarrassing yourself.

  • Don’t think I didn’t catch that mongo push there guy…

  • Lifestyle Products.
    Up-Cycle.

Ever heard of RKP trucks, guys? And ‘compound curvature’ is not ‘what she said last night’ but what we boarders call rocker.
I’m sure by now, you can think of your own bunghole, and what to do with your little plank.

Boy, did you deliver on the annoying part today again, Kilwag. Next!

  • When yer done wit dis plank u can trow it on da grill & smoke sum ribz!
