Oi! Jacko!

I have no idea who Oi! Jacko Gym was, but near as I can tell by this picture, he must have been some sort of middle aged, weight lifting Sting impersonator from Australia. He’s not content to just ride a skateboard, he’s got to lift weights at the same time. The box commands you to “Do your push-ups with Jacko.” Can I just skip them instead? Also, I’m not so sure about the “Make & Do” booklet. It sounds like some sort of toddler potty training record. It looks like he may have been the Australian mascot for Energizer.

Hello. Anyway you could email me some pics?

  • I have a mint one if you never got this sorted – just email me.

  • Tim… hit me up at don2@pobox.com, and we’ll continue this off the site.

One thing: $90 AU, or US?

    Don

  • $90 plus postage and it’s yours. Batteries included. One thing I noticed when putting in the AA’s to try it out, the skateboard only goes forwards, not backwards. Might be some corrosion on a terminal or something.

    • Hey Tim, didn’t hear back from you regarding whether or not the $90 was US or AU. I do still want that toy… my friend is going to have the Christmas morning of his life!

      Don

  • Tim… Wow, I’m one step closer! But, I have no idea what it’s worth. The original eBay AU listing appears to be gone, so I don’t even know what it sold for. Like I said, it’s a funny gift for a friend, so it’s not like I’m an obsessive collector who’s looking to complete some Holy Grail set.

I’m assuming you’re in Australia… Is $50 AU too low? Seriously, I’m not trying to low-ball you or anything. I have no idea.

    Don

  • This is going to sound weird, but I absolutely HAVE to have this toy for a really good friend. I used to torture him with that “OI!” catchphrase.

Do you still have this? If so, would you be willing to sell it?

House of Neil is right. He was an aussie rules footballer in the 80’s… played for Geelong. He had a song –

    Oh the humanity.

That’s pretty awful and pretty awesome at the same time. I wonder if all the punky new wave extras got grief from their friends, or maybe this guys was a national hero or something.

  • Wasn’t he a character on Max Headroom’s tv show?

  • House of Neil

I remember Jacko very well. Ex Aussie rules footballer I think. Then he did Energizer commercials and an american TV series called the highwayman? It only lasted about 3 episodes.

Britt, the WWF wrestler was Outback Jack. He was a mid card jobber. His finisher was a clothesline to the back of the head which he called the boomerang if memory serves.

  • That dude was on the energizer commercials!

  • he was in the old 80s WWF !

And I thought ‘Oi!’ was british.

I’d rather jumprope with the gals.
