Skateboard strap wars

Slingz and the Sk8rstrap are two brands of strap that are designed to help you carry your skateboard instead of ride it. Slingz is more of a professional operation, with a somewhat professional looking website, while Sk8rstrap is pure amateur hour. Slingz has some funny videos, kids strapping on the skateboard inside just long enough to brush some teeth, run downstairs and walk out the front door to skate in the driveway. I think they advertised in Concrete Wave once or twice. Sk8rstrap doesn’t have much of a website. They’ve also got one of the most convoluted and arcane e-commerce setups. I dare you to try and figure out how to buy one. Note: I’m not daring you to actually buy one, just try and figure out how to do it. They’ve been in business since 2007 if you believe the copyright on the web site. Skateboard accessories… you can’t beat ’em with a, uhm, strap.

  • dear profiteers….. i hope you go bankrupt and have to sell your children into third world slavery to repay your investors.

  • You probably could make a pretty legit sex swing out of a couple of these skate straps. Hell, with the prices they charge at the ‘adult superstores’, you could buy up a load of these and triple your money.

  • I think a bandolier for beer would be a much better waste of my money, or a sex swing… I’m getting old.

  • From Wikipedia, so it must be true.

In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship.

I believe mockery is a form of criticism.

  • simplejack

A carabiner. A chubby pocket (really a cell phone cozy). And simulated camo. Uh……sign of the apocalypse if you ask me.

Bummer to follow your dream only to design a square.

  • Shitty company gets free plug, threatens lawsuit. Clearly they are going places.

  • Sk8rStrap has some very satisfied customers, and so far no complaints. In fact, some were recently purchased for use in a movie coming out in December. The Sk8rStrap is our product, designed and manufactured by our company. It was created by modifying another product developed and manufactured by us in the 80’s. At first glance, it appears that Slingz might be a knock-off of our product, which is an issue that will be addressed. By the way, the link you give for Slingz is “dead” but thanks for the link to our site. I hope many of your readers will try the Sk8rStrap — If you have a skateboard, you need a Sk8rStrap, http://www.Sk8rStrap.com. You can also buy this product online at http://www.Beach-USA.com, where other innovative products are available.

By the way, to the webmaster of this site, copyright law prohibits you from using our pictures on your web site without permission.

    • Skaters skate .. and everybody else buys this crap

    • “By the way, to the webmaster of this site, copyright law prohibits you from using our pictures on your web site without permission.”

Hey dummy…you are getting free advertisement & your website has probably seen a boost in traffic as a result of this post. You complain about the use of your images then plug your awful websites. Very funny.

That being said…I think Neil should delete their images or better yet, delete the whole post. Screw the Strap On.

      • No dummy here! We deal with copyright issues on a daily basis for our clients. Anyone who puts up a web site needs to understand copyright laws. Not complaining – Just letting them know in case they are unaware. Some people say things to be nice… surprise!

        • Butthurt for BMX

Too bad you don’t deal with legitimate products on a daily basis. That thing is a joke.

          1) Skateboards are meant to be ridden, not carried.

          2) When the need arises to carry a board, they fit easily in one’s hand, weigh very little, and are the antithesis of cumbersome.

          3) Just about every backpack maker on the planet provides several models with board straps.

          Is this clear-enough criticism?

    • Butthurt for BMX

Carrying skateboards has always stymied me!!! Between my boom-box, my omni-present Mtn. Dew and my sack of Doritos, I’ve had a devil of a time getting all my gear to the stuntpark to hang with my totally gnarly buds and catch air on the u-jump!!!

Thanx Jeanne! I’m gonna do a 360 for you!!!

      Hang Loose!!!

    • And if you’re a jock you need a jock strap.

  • talentlessquitter

That is one tough guy wearing the gripped part of his board on his shirtless back.

  • not really sure where to begin here…
they were some major players (ex pro skaters) involved with this product
they stepped up to be a part of the warped tour….and then wound up stiffing me
    quel surprise!
    we did run one ad…
seems to me a little bit over-engineered….but what do I know?

  • You could always use it like an inner-tube and do some
gnarly bunny-hops. I think they should be marketing to
all the douchey kids that carry longboards around instead
    of riding them.

  • I remember having seen such a useless device in old magazines … ’70s. I’ll have to check to find it.

  • I could see using this when walking into a store or an airport or someplace else you can’t ride. Except that you’d have to carry the strap all the time. Unless you’re rocking a backpack, that’s a pain.. but if you’ve got a backpack, you ought to be able to strap the board to the backpack. Wait, you ditch the backpack, you get a hip pack to carry the strap…

  • Get yours today with our easy 8 click ordering process! Too funny.

  • But won’t it get in the way of my shakuhachi?

  • masterochicken

I liked the gratuitous ass shot. But seriously, did they all live in the same house or something?

  • Never thought I’d see a skateboard strap-on.

  • I love to strap and destroy….

  • Why would you strap your board on just so you could brush your teeth?

  • I wonder if these kid’s would also buy a skate tool storage device that goes around their hip. A HIP PACK! Another name maybe WAIST POUCH what ever sells after all it is the UNITED STATES of MARKETING. Buy and Destroy (your bank account). Good music though.

  • A better name maybe POSER SLING. Skaters skate Posers have Board in tow.

  • Gabe Solame

My six yr old has a slingz …it actually comes in handy plus it makes him feel like a cool” real” skateboard dude 🙂
