eBay Watch: March 2010

Ha ha! No excuses this month because this one should be right on time! Midway through the following month is right when you should start looking for Baywatch, and I pretty much made it! Some months are a chore to write, and it feels like pulling teeth, but some months just flow easily, and that was true of March. I think there’s a really good selection of stuff this month, with some high priced items but balanced out by some interesting but cheaper decks too. But enjoy this one because April is looking absolutely terrible so far. I can’t remember a month with so few high priced decks and so many uninteresting mid priced decks! Really, it’s a barren wasteland out there so far this month! And it’s funny because I just had an argument with a guy on skullandbones who asked why there are so few good NOS decks on eBay these days. I argued that he just wasn’t looking hard enough, which was probably true in March, but judging by April he is right. I hope that this worrying trend ends quickly, because this is going to be a damned dull column going forward if things continue at this rate!

    …and I was too early;you fixed the link,alright!

Another great watch, and soon after the february one.You made my day I was so happy!Until I scrolled down to the ‘Warhols’.I’m really surprised you put in that commercial crap.”Get those popsickles out of MY watch!” (The Natas is cool). At least put them under the assorted crap line. And I think the skatebag should be on the main site.Don’t get me wrong,I care and I’m a fan.
I let the joy win here as this time I recognized and watched over half of the decks and recommended a lot of them (I am aware I’m not the only emailer).
And thanks for putting in a freestyle deck.

Oh,and I forgot, surprise! Both The Pacific and Spartacus are shown on tv now in our lil’ country.I must say the latter appeals most to me.The Band of Brothers rerun finished last week.

  5. Killer Boom Cat, these boards pumped my nads in ’83/’84, the Baucom (Sp?) Rude Boy was another…Randy do you remember the sacred Boom Kitty Stay Out/Skate Hard sticker in my old Rabbit? The stray cat was hanging 5 claws to grab the nose for a fastplant over an alley fence, rad, one of a kind.

  6. Dude, I was just having an argument the other day with a few friends about The Pacific and my position is exactly the same as yours. I gave up after the austrailia episode.

It’s gotten a little better because at least it’s focusing on the battles again, but even so we had to see some pointless scene at home where the guy on leave goes to visit the other dudes family. Why was that necessary? we don’t need the backstory. The shit itself is fascinating enough.

    Cheers Neal,

Hey that Oops IV is a wierd one…when you say the only colour way is that just the screen or the stain included? I have this deck in a red – brown stain, quite different to the plain wood gain finish on this one.
Thanks for the read. i had the best wednesday in ages!

My freinds and I used to prank call Skates on Haight and ask if they had “Boom Kittys”. Why? I have no idea. That Lopes deck is a work of art. Amazing. My wife is from Boston and wants to go see New Kids at the Horseshoe….kill me now…..

  10. Missed one dude. Where is that sweet undrilled Kryptonics foamcore deck that sold for nearly a K? HHHMMMMMMMMM???

  11. houseofneil on April 23, 2010 - Reply

didn’t miss it. I’ve featured those so much recently that I’m not going to do anymore for awhile.

    1. I think you can lay off the Mullens, Kendalls and Z-Flexs then.

Loved you comment about wasting 5 minutes of your life describing a Staab graphic.

    2. “And it

  12. The Heineken stickers on the Alva are probably a nod to the Skateboarder Mag Biniak (R.I.P…again) interview where he talked about having a few “greenies” with the boys. Once it was realized that he was talking about beer and not pills (not that we were necessarily opposed to pills, we just weren’t aware of any good green ones…), we started drinking it when we had enough money. I would have put a Heineken sticker on my board if I’d had one.

`That’s right, there is NOTHING WRONG with a Heineken sticker.(Have to defend our finest export product here).

  13. Neil, here’s some truly useless backstory (re the Pacific) for you. I was in the liberry in college once with a girl over 6’1″ who I’d been doing, when she happened to see a book about Admiral Jack Fletcher and held it up and said “That’s my grandfather!”. Coincidentally, I happened to be probably the only guy in the entire school (from reading Ballantine WWII books when I was a kid) who was aware of who “Mad Jack” was, but I managed not to blurt out “Hey, isn’t that the guy who nearly lost the Pacific war for us with a blunder in the Coral Sea?” (Good thing the dude wasn’t a pro skater; he might’ve fallen down once….)

  14. I’m still amazed people have nearly 3 grand disposeable cash to splash on a deck! The Z Flex in particular. It’s cool but that’s big cash in the middle of recession. How come they keeping popping up, NOS, undrilled and mint too!? I have to wonder if the old zephyr press has seen some sction recentley…! But i’m a cynic so whatever, good for the seller for bagging some hard cash. That busted Suicidal is one of the best this month; it tells it’s own story like a good piece of art should. Would have been great to have the tail too. Maybe that’ll pop up next month…

    1. Talentlessquitter on April 26, 2010 - Reply

      Can you believe some sellers out there;
“The tail is a little scratched..” Haha!

Fairplay to ’em, last nights Pacific (episode 7) was superb. Super intense and brutal battle scenes. Very well done. But next weeks looks like more Hollywood back story bullshit.

  16. Hey. Lovin’ “the ‘watch” as usual. Nice Mullen, I have a white one ( complete and signed! ), but the paint is pearlescent. Is that rare? Don’t care what it’s worth it ain’t for sale. Had to laugh at that Randy Colvin New Kids deck, it is hideous, but I think the first few had a swastika in the background, typical Rocco, which kinda makes more sense. Oh, and that McGill at the end, is it just me or is the front axle bent, could’ve affected the price.

I won the Miller mini-lizard. Paid promptly with my PayPal account and the jerk never sent me the deck. BEWARE of “vintage*fever”!

  18. Noticed somebody is selling some old unused Sims wheels on Craigslist in Eugene right now. I’m no collector, but someone else might want to get them.

Vince, do you know that for a fact or is that just a guess?
If you know for sure please tell us how you know because it might help folks next time.
