That’s Life
It doesn’t get much purer than this. You have to build it before you can play. That’s your barrier to entry. Also worth mentioning, non-athletic shoes. VIntage Life magazine.
– Thanks to Andy Wylie for the tip.

He must be getting ready to work on his Natas spins. It might help if he centers those trucks a little better. What a great image.
What a great shot. I have the 1965 Life with the “craze and menace of skateboards” cover, but have never seen this photo. Classic.
The car is late ’30’s,early ’40’s,yeah,that’s an amazing picture.
Holy God,that fire hydrant is twice the size of the car!!! What kind of crazy time period was this that cars were 3×2 ft and fire hydrants were like reservoir towers???!!!!
Well, you can have your crazy world of tiny cars and oversized fire hydrants and greaser-Jeremy Kleins thank you very much, people of the land of the 40’s.
Here’s the caption from the Life magazine site:

Kill joy!
You know there were kids somewhere who tried it without the crate.
Once again you are cutting the lawn under my feet: I was about to post this delicious picture on my next article (banana boards)
Great find – as usual !
History books tell us this kid should be working in a factory or selling news papers. If it were not for this kid we would have no Tony Blue Tile no Flying Tomato. If it were not for this kid we would all be working in factories? Thank you kid if that is your name?
Skateboarding: brought to you by bored, unsupervised, unorganized ten-year-olds.
That just might be my favourite skateboarding photo, ever.
Kilwag;that reminds me of Back To The Future again…
