  1. Skateboarding is an organized sport.

Teams, rules, contests, uniforms, personalities, logos, multimillion merchandising… And on an amateur level, how many skaters like to skate with their crew? Dudes have been forming these crews (you might call them teams) since, when? Forever?

Sure you can just go skate, just like you can just go shoot some hoops. But it’s still an organized team sport.

Glad the whole locker-room/communal-shower aspect remains largely ignored though…

  2. you can make skating organized and form teams etc. but just skateboarding all by yourself is skateboarding as much as riding the mega ramp in a contest is. whereas just shooting hoops by yourself is not “playing basketball”. it might be practicing basketball. some skaters practice kickflips etc. but we as skaters can take it in any direction.
as a kid I thought stickers were cool, and my crew was a team. now I am the only skater left from that crew. my clothes don’t say skater, and often I have no plan as I roll twards the curb. solitary and almost 100% disorganized is where I have ended up as a skater.
