More music vids

A couple more music vids with skateboarding. No, it’s not Rob Dydrek launching a rap career. He’s just making a guest appearance in the Mayer Hawthorne video for Maybe So Maybe No. Hey Stones Throw, hook us up. Second up is “Young Forever” by Jay-Z with a guest appearance by Mr Hudson.

– Thanks to Brian Baade for the tip.

“Young Forever” Jay-Z | Mr. Hudson

I had to look up Mr. Hudson on Allmusic to find out who he was. In the video I figured he could possibly one of the guys from Alphaville, the 80’s synth band that whored themselves out to Jay Z. In the tradition of rappers laying a bunch of bullshit over really popular old songs without changing much, you might enjoy this. In the course of trying to suss out the Alphaville connections, I played a bit for my wife and I remarked how Mr Hudson’s voice was reminiscent of Sting’s. It played for a while and she asked “What part does Jay Z sing?” to which I replied “The shitty part,” and right on cue Jay Z comes in with a “Uh! Uh!” It’s not like I’m a fan of Alphaville, or anything, becasue I’m not, but this reminds me of that lame Puff Daddy / Led Zepplin “sample.” Anyway, there’s some skateboarding in there.

  • THIS SITE IS BOMB !!!!!!

  • Randy, fwiw, punkdom’s Dr. Know can be heard guitar-doodling on Mos Def’s “Ghetto Rock”, the video for which features lots of skating. (Apparently Mos couldn’t stand Fred Durst, and felt compelled to try to reclaim r’n’r for black [and non-Durst people in general] with his Black Jack Johnson project.)

  • Bret Taylor

    Multicultual crap.

  • Woah haha, they were shooting that first video at Venice Beach while we were skating the park last year. I wondered what they were up to.

  • Brent212

I like the Alphaville song in Kerry Getz’s part in the “Skate More” DVS video (I think that’s the one). Haven’t heard anything else from them.

  • Mr. Hudson is an English guy who does fairly poppy electronic stuff. Dunno if that clears up the Alphaville link coz I’ve never heard of ’em and I have no other info on matey.

  • pretty sure that’s FDR making a cameo

  • I was hired to skate in this music video, it was actually supposed to be a bigger part but one of the actresses died on the ride home from the shoot and out of respect took every shot of her out. She was in 90% of the skateboard shots. There is a brief shot of me skating at 32 seconds and another shot of me directing traffic on top of my car at 11 seconds.
