DIY Concrete Quarter pipe

D.I.Y. concrete quarterpipe

Joesf Heffner sent in a few pics of a backyard project he is working on. Looks like a concrete quarterpipe with a little run up. Hopefully he’ll chime in with the approximate costs and time involved. Enlarge those pics after the jump.

I am stoked, Our 3 ft tranny 3 ft tall QP has a few imperfections in the face, but it is a gnarly challenge to get some basic tricks on it so far. way fun and right off my patio.

  • nweyesk8

stage II is almost done 🙂

  • Edit:

Sorry for double posting. By cost I mean just the concrete and simple cheap tools, to do it by hand. Not the mixer, etc. I plan on mixing it by hand.

    Thanks again!

  • I was thinking of making something similar. How much did it cost?

    Thanks for the help!

  • nweyesk8

    MC, your just jealous…

  • You guys need to move this over to the skater dater forum.

  • nweyesk8

rad, you can get my email from kilwag via this site. did you skate with Ricky Crane from Bastrop? and, i think John, his dad owned a local agriculture supply store in bastrop? I think I went up to that indoor park in Little rock with you once around winter 95-spring 96, just before i returned to oregon permanently.

  • thought the name sounded familiar. yep, skated that ramp. used to love to skate those hills too. i lived in monroe,la. used to live out in oregon for awhile. skated with you couple of times out that way. live back in monroe area now but never home. just roamin round building skateparks. moving back out to oregon in september cuz had enough of here(no body skates anymore.) my name is scott. keep up the crete work. it’s fun, huh? glad to lend a hand when i get out that way. don’t know too many folks out there anymore so will holler at you to go skate. take care.

  • nweyesk8

yes, i lived in Vicksburg, Ms from 1979-1995, graduated VHS in 92. Who is this? Did you ever skate my conglomerate of backyard mini-ramps? Spine with two hips?

  • oh yeah, could be real off base here, but did used to live in vicksburg?

  • i used welded wire fence on a lot of shit at my house too. used some of those bricks for coping too. feel and sound sick when you grind em. like a train track.

  • that one diy we skated yesterday was sick. crazy spot! its over by the

  • Timmy Tomato

“nice hoe 30$” thats a good deal. The DIY pics are inspirational too. Thanks

  • i’ll send some nude pics soon. stage69 complete

  • nweyesk8

thanks tedder, We are not fully sure what we are using for coping in the rest, i was going to look at the bullnose landscaping brick as a potential option. I will get in touch for some blocks though.

  • Looks kill Joey I got some seconds blocks if you need some radius pieces real cheap. Make me a South Town Peanut replica so some Jackma’s from Seattle can come down and rip them off and put them on their park. I’ll post a map to your crib next week so they will know where it is at homey. FSU CPT! Tedders

Ok kids… if you don’t have anything nice to say… Don’t make me pull the car over….

  • nweyesk8

you need your eyes examined, if you can even read, i suspect you only look at the pictures and have already decided that you know exactly what we are building, without actually reading the follow up, Stage II will be done within the week and stage III will be being formed out and finished by the end of the month of Aug. By the time we are done, there will be about 700 sq ft of concrete and plenty of vert. Now, how about you get off your ass and build something instead of bitching about what other are building or are you one of those people that sponges off society while complaining about how unfair your life is. Since you seem to know a lot about Corvallis, if you want vert, cause your not riding mine, i hear there is an unfinished basement ramp waiting to be skinned over and ridden. but, oh man, i’m sure you already knew that didn’t you.

  • im not too worried about skating it, if i want shitty quarter pipes i will go to corvallis to skate, grow a pair and build some vert little pussy ass bitch.

  • nweyesk8

oh man, your such a dipshit that im sure you will never ride this little project, even as you drool over each new stage that gets added

  • i know this site has a section on making home-made pool block…

  • that looks like a mellow corvallis quarter. where is the pool coping or corner? vert? wallrides? make it a challenge, not a bank ramp w/ coping on the top… looks smooth but needs to be steep and w/ river rocks or something original for the coping

  • Here’s all the advice you need. Get out there and play with in the mud.

  • skatepark.org is a bunch of god damn pad nannies with nothing else to do but copypaste shit from all over the interwebs(tm)

  • For advice on DIY concrete I strongly suggest getting over the DIY forum on http://www.skatepark.org/ (requires sign up). Lots of useful infomation from homemade pool-coping through complete crete bowl building.

  • Cool.

  • nweyesk8

    big hairy ones

  • Nice job Joesf. I recently had a slab poured. I hired a contractor and then signed on as sole crew member hoping to learn a few tricks… that type of work is more difficult than I imagined. Cool project man! I hope we get to see more pics!

  • A

Cool. Keep sending the pics. Have you made sketches of the stages or is it all in your head?

Rental property? Wow, you’ve got balls, or disposable cash.

  • nweyesk8

and considering those 3 pours pictured were the 1st time i ever tried to work with concrete, Ryan and I are both pretty happy with our results. we put at least 3 hours or more into floating and finishing each section.

  • nweyesk8

so far, I bought an electric concrete mixer for 260$, a float 20$, finish trowel 20$, nice hoe 30$, and 70 bags of concrete at 2.70 a bag. This is just stage 1. After the rent gets paid, stage 2 will be in progress, with stage 3 in the planning phase.

Stage 2 will consist of an angled pump bump, think a funnel cut in half, that will water fall into another flat stretch leading into a 3-4′ trannied QP against the back side of the ramp.

Stage 3 some form of 3 sided wading pool with 3-4′ trannies

I have to say after having poured only 80sqft, i ahve a lot more respect for the extra effort that goes into bringing out that buttery smooth finish we are so used to here in Oregon
