ASR with OMA

ASR with OMA

The Old Man Army crew decided to take off for a weekend to go down to San Diego to see what all of the hoopla was about at the ASR show. They wanted to meet in person a few of the people in the industry that they have dealings with. The only other thing on their agenda was to get a couple of pictures of the kooky skateboard gadgets for the Skate and Annoy.

Check out: 2007 ASR with OMA

I bought an “underwater skate” as a joke to photograph and return. It’s basically a thick skateboard deck made out of soft foam that floats. I had it laying around the house and my one year old started jumping on the thing and pretending to skate. I kept it let him keep it to play with cause he was stoked on it. It was easier on our floors and furniture than a wooden deck. I’ve seen those Yo babys in a tourist shop in Florida, and my kid was instantly drawn to the display and took a bunch of them out and started jumping around on them, much to the dismay of the people who worked there.

They are stupid as hell, but little kids seem to like them. Personally, I think a better idea is Egbert’s carpet skate. is a better way to go.

  • The way I look at the Yo Baby stuff is if you want to have something to practice on the carpet then either take your trucks and wheels off or use an old board.

Just don’t see the point in buying some cheap plastic stick that doesn’t even resemble a real board.

Yea you are right…we hardly even covered the hug amount of gimmicks…and there were a ton.

I was kind of in a rush to write this thing up, but next years ASR Gimmick convention will be better covered…including swim suit pics.

And Kilwag was right…the picture of the skater on the half-pipe is Tyler Martin..who by the way is starting to really kill it. His dad is a damn good rider as well.

Sounds lame but, those Yo Baby things are great for little rippers, my daughter got one when she was 2 and has helped her no end with her balance when she standing on her Dads board. Not such a bad idea just pitched and advertised badly. Leave em for the under 5’s

  • This is the best coverage of ASR I’ve seen in my 20 plus years of going. Funny, its all Hartungs fault too. So much crap- you barely touched on it. Where was the swimsuit photos?

  • Looks painful.
