Skate and Annoy: Daily

Backyard skate facilities of the rich and famous.

Backyard skate facilities of the rich and famous.

Dan Hughes tipped me off to Tony Hawk’s appearance on HGTV‘s show called Sizzling Summer. This particular episode had to do with sizzling backyards, and Tony Hawk’s cement “skatepark” was one of the backyards featured. I tried get this recorded on my own but all I could seem to find were episodes on a bunch of arts and craft projects. Dan was kind enough to digitize it himself. One of the related links that came up with it is a Red Bull authored video on Ryan Sheckler’s backyard skate ramp. It looks like Red Bull must have built it for him because it’s got Red Bull’s color scheme and a cheesy little built in fridge stocked with Red Bull. Watch them both after the jump. Update: Added Bob Burnquist’s house after a reader request.

Tony Hawk’s backyard skatepark

I’m actually surprised that a skater of Tony’s financial means has a somewhat generic and uninspired cement structure in his back yard. Of course it is highly possible that he’s tired of the gnar all the time and just wanted something to dink around in – a place where his kids could learn. His actual swimming pool is what looks the most interesting.

Ryan Sheckler’s backyard skatepark

Man, this kid is irritating to listen too. He comes off like such a… well, teenager living his dream getting paid a shitload of money to skateboard. Ryan’s spot shows a little more imagination. Maybe it’s just the paint job though. Tony has ledges, a rail and a pyramid in his yard too.

Bob Burnquist’s backyard mega ramp.

From NY Times video, mostly about the ramp and not the rest of his complex.

    ALL u DAMN HATERS!
all u can do is hate because you don’t have that shit in your back yard! waaaaaa waaa Cry about it some more

That sheckler is so far from from my session. I dont think he could relate to any of my friends. Skateboarding has offically left the planet and landed in uranus.

  • It’s official. I hate Ryan Sheckler. I have been trying really hard not to, but this little interview and the Red Bull chesse have cemented it. He’s good and all, but in that shitty jock way, which is only reinforced by the huge new “Sheckler” tattoo across his shoulders. Ugh. I can just picture him driving around SoCalif in a jacked up monster truck with a big Fox sticker. Kill me now.

  • Tony designed it. And I agree it’s mostly for his kids. I was surprised that Riley wasn’t in this one…where is that kid these days?

It looks like this episode airs next on July 29, 2007 5:00 PM ET/PT

i would be pissed at the contractor for building such a crappy and uninspiring design, but then again, it is California. What else can you expect from a crappy and uninspired state?

  • lame … yea … it would totally suck if you had some concrete just like that in your backyard.
