Follow-up to the skateboarding chimp pictures the other day. MVP2 – Most Vertical Primate is the heartwarming story of a professional hockey player unjustly accused of biting an opposing team member and on the run befriending a homeless skateboarder kid and helping him to find a home, success as a skateboarder and… a sponsor! And the professional hockey player, is a clothes-wearing chimpanzee.
God-awful corny exploitative bullshit. The skate footage is not bad though. Bob Burnquist does a sick invert-revert and some other good stuff during a 5 minute half-pipe skating sequence. Skate stand-ins include Ryan Sheckler and Rob Sluggo Boyce (who apparently does quite a bit of movie stunt work) but the chimp actually does his own skating! Also, the runaway kid is squatting in a remarkably clean and spacious tool shed by an abandoned empty swimming pool in Seattle that skaters don’t seem to have found. But hell, the movie also has a chimp playing preofessional hockey.
I got it used from Amazon for $3 plus shipping. Worth it just to see the chimp skating action. Here’s a trailer.
