eBay Watch for April 2007

eBay Watch for April 2007

You will notice some changes this month. Because it’s my column and I can do what I want, I’m dropping some of the usual big $$ boards because I’m sick of looking at them. No skull and snake McGills for example, no Jason Jessees (except for a reissue), no Roskopps (except for a reissue). If I get bored writing about tem every month, I’m sure that you get tired of seeing them. I might bring them back next month, but probably not. I’m going to try to feature some graphics you don’t see as much by some lesser-known skaters. Or team boards. They don’t sell for as much, but it makes life more interesting damnit. Check out April’s eBay Watch.

  • Hey

Just wanted to say thanks for all the work you do on this page. It’s really cool, and I get a laugh out of the writing. too. About those foamy Kryptonics boards going for big $, I’d say they’re hot because of when they were made – they came out after Skateboarder had their “Lite board symposium”, when everyone got all warm and fuzzy about “hi-tech” boards. And they were really, really different. Also back then, Kryptonics itself was still sorta, kinda cool, especially when they had pictures of Salba and Malba riding their stuff.

Oh, and the Natas “Satan” board for 4K? Dang, I used to distribute World Ind. here in Denmark, and we sold those. Some of the religious hicks from the shops in the boonies even called us and damned our sorry souls to Hell for sending “that filth” before they sent them back. Should have held on to one. Even thought about it. Oh well.

    Keep writing!

  • Neil,

PLEASE go to Ebay now and comment on this auction… This guy is pumping up a sticker like it is gold.

we’ve had tie-dye models before: check the past months.

    Thanks for the kind words.

  • Chris Arneson

I have seen your website several times over the past few years and I just wanted to comment. I think it is great. I’ve been looking to see if there is a Jeff Phillips Tie dye model and I haven’t seen one. Just curious about the value of mine. Used to have the Kevin Staab you have pictured here in black. One of my favorites. Love the website.

  • wow, that’s a beauty. Thanks for the heads up. I sold my Santa Cruz 30 f’n years dealer clock yesterday on Egay for $165 (for a heat transfer popsicle with a hole in it!!!!) Got it for $50 two months ago.

  • anyone see the Neil Blender Coffee Break that’s listed right now? It’s going off at over $800. I’ve never seen colors like that on a Coffee Break before… 1st time seller, 3 day auction…

  • cold ones

I belive that Zoo York is now owned by Echo Unlimited. It’s some clothing co.

  • A

I thought they were supposed to suck.

  • houseofneil

geez Swiv. Read the baywatch. It says right there what they are going for. That’s the point of it!!!! They stopped making them as soon as they came up with the Indy I believe.

  • Doesn’t anyone care about Stroker/Stoker trucks? Why are you guys ignoring me?!? I am going to start weeping! Is Stroker/Stoker still in business and what are those trucks selling for? What’s the deal? Someone with more knowledge, enlighten me.

  • I’ve been told that the Staab isn’t minty, but is in fact used. Hard to tell from the small picture.

  • Yep I had all of those. Curse the man who invented the rock-and-roll-slide.

  • houseofneil

OK, what the fuck was I talking about? That obviously wasn’t Christian’s first pro graphic. His first was the rising sun on Sims, which they later changed to the Kamikaze model after he left for Alva. His first graphic for Alva appeared to be the fireball on a pig shape which is featued in an ad in the November 83 Thrasher. It also features a broken Sims rising sun if you look really carefully. The graphic I feature in this baywatch doesn’t make an appearance until March 1984, and it is on a fish shape. So it is technically Christian’s 3rd graphic. My apologies.

Randy, can you add a link to this in the write-up of the Hosoi deck?

  • houseofneil

Brad, it’s his first graphic. Now, whether it was put out on a pig before the fish shape, well that would make sense. But the graphic is still his first. Atleast according to AOS it was. Let me get some old Thrashers out and check that out.

Randy, you’re right about the Kendall decks. The first graffiti graphic was crappy, but his later ones were excellent, especially the jagermeister. WHich is why their choice of reissues was even more puzzling.

And yes, Shut is making decks agin, and some of the graphics and shapes are just excellent. And yes, I dig the new Stereo stuff too. It looks classy.

On S&B somebody just posted some of the new Airwalks from a Payless catalg. I guess they are now making plastic clogs: Crocs ripoffs if you will. Pathetic. Just pathetic.

  • Awesome Neil. I had a long day at work and then stayed late just to read this as my sweet reward. I always have to chime in on an Alva Hosoi as I had one -real bad wood. Are you sure this is technically his first? I’ve seen this same graphic in a pig and it just seems like the pig would come b4 the fish, but who the hell knows. That Krypto must’ve had a rebate on that griptape job- it’s too perfect- maybe? I laughed outloud in my office at “shrinkraped” and I’m surprised by your love for the Screamer- I guess it is pretty rad afterall.

  • A

Good move on omitting the more common auctions. No point in posting the same thing all the time unless the price is astronomical.

Arrgh! those ski boots remind me how much I hate Airwalk.

By the photos, it looks like one guy sold his whole Zorlac collection.

Shut is making skateboards again. The Shut site makes it sound like the founders walked away from Zoo York to restart Shut.. So who owns Zoo York now? I hate it when companies restart or are reborn as brands. If you are going to quit, then quit. Stereo likes to pretend they didn’t shut down…it bugs me, although I must say, I like Stereo’s new stuff.

As a screen printer, I think that McGill deck is a beautiful print, but it’s a horribly cheesy design. Reminds me of those bad tourist t-shirts you get in Florida. It looks like it should say “Key West, Fla” in script at the bottom.

And lastly, I always thought his first couple of graphics were crap, but Jeff Kendall’s later decks look good. I’m talking about the Atom Man you featured this month, and I also like the Jager logo.

  • Are those Stoker (sic?) Trucks in that photo? Supposedly, they were the best high speed downhill or slalom trucks made. How much are they going for? Has anyone every rode a board with those trucks? I would love to check that out. Do they still make them? Holy crap!

  • Jeff2much

That Hensley graphic has to be the worst thing ever. Actually, the only thing worse is the nose on the Zorlac pig. everyone who thinks non-Indy riders are kooks should take a long look at those Stroker trucks. As long as I’m ripping everthing, those Airwalks look like ski boots. Nice.
