IBM advert skateboard and Chumby

Big Blue and Chumby get ridiculous, radical.

This tip came labeled as “the latest in absurd use of a skateboard in a graphic,” and you’ll get no argument from me here. Looks like two pieces of canned clip art and about five minutes of work. IBM wants you to use some of their software, and in return they’ll send you a Chumby, which is actually a cool little Interwebs™ powered physical gizmo that would be fun to own as long as you didn’t have to pay for it. Chumbies (chumbi?) sell for $180, so that IBM course must be pretty expensive. See if you can get your boss to pay for it. Details online, but it’s a webmail campaign, so if it disappears you can see the ad bigger after the jump. Now that I’m looking at this, they might have actually had a guy jump out of a plane with a skateboard to pose this shot.

  1. What the hell? IBM adverises it’s product with a photo of a skydiving longboarder and expects me to get a chubby? I don’t know about you guys but that isn’t the kind of thing that turns me on.

  2. I actually got the chance to test out the ‘Chumby’ and work out the bugs when they were being developed and I must say, it does a great job of taking pictures from this site and other skate related sites and putting them into a slideshow to waste my time staring at while I am supposed to be working. The built in internet radio is really nice too.
Oh, and what is up with that ad? they must have put ‘extreme’ into google safe image search and picked out the two most radical looking pictures.
