Windells bowl

OSS Windell’s party

Windell’s Snowboard Camp has evolved over the years. They had a bunch of outdoor ramps including a crazy spine bowl and various street and mini combinations, then they built a crazy indoor bowl setup and then later the indoor Bobcomplex with a 75 foot miniramp. The latest and greatest seems to be concrete. Old School Skateboarding had a party there last Sunday.

The $15 entry fee seemed a little steep considering the drive and the number of choice free skate spots available on a perfect fall day. The fall foliage combined with clear views of snow covered Mt. Hood made for a nice drive and they provided food and a nice Windell’s t-shirt, so it was money well spent in the end. I took my kid to a concert a while back and two tickets set me back over a hundred bucks.

Windell’s is about an hour from Northeast Portland. I got a late start and by the time I got there things were in full swing. Tobin and Russ couldn’t get enough of the foam pit launch.

Kilroy, Chuck, CSkate, Skateboard Archivist Mike, a couple of Ricks, Auggiedawg, Thor, Mel, Wally, Isaac and a few other guys were hard at work in Dreamland built minibowl and young rippers Adam and Brogan were making it look easy. Damned kids.

Big mini
The big mini is still there but I couldn’t bring myself to stay indoors on a sixty-six degree day in October. I hope I get a chance to skate it a few times during the rainy season.

I’m going to ask my mom to send me to skate camp.

  • Understood, your point was valid though. The idea of paying to skate in Oregon seems pretty ludicrous.

  • It was a good deal. I had a great time, I just thought it seemed like a lot at first. I see I messed that up in my editing. The actual experience, the shirt and food combined to make it a great time. Thanks for hosting a great event!

  • Dang I’m sorry to hear about KC, is he okay?

  • $15 a head was Windells cost to us, PK and I spent our own money on the food. It seemed like a good deal to me considering the fun that was had. The only thing I thought that sucked was the bargers who came late with no money and expected to skate. That won’t happen again next year.

  • KC from (STRANGE sk8bds) drove home with a fractured skull and ripped hand. Don’t try to get tubed in metal framed doorways! Hope you heal soon.
