Madrid: Cadillac Trucks

Madrid: Cadillac Trucks

Madrid Skateboards
Cadillac Trucks
5.5″

I got these trucks to set up on a retro cruiser hybrid because I figured I wouldn’t need the performance and I wanted to match the styling to the appropriate era. I suppose I could have just gotten Indy’s but I don’t have a wholesale connection there so that was an easy decision to make. For starters, I wasn’t really paying attention when I ordered these because the baseplate is hollowed out between the kingpin and the pivot. They aren’t exactly historically accurate, but the hangers do have a little bit of a retro style to them, and the baseplates have the old style mounting holes, which I like for illogical and nostalgic reasons.

Cadillac trucks appear to fall in the category the skateboard industry likes to call “Price Point” which is a polite way of saying cheap. Actually, Madrid does have a specific price-point truck that is less expensive than the Cadillacs. It’s not like the Cadillac brand name has any consumer name recognition these days. Let’s assume that they are a moderately priced truck aimed at kids that aren’t going to be doing 20 stair ollies or massive handrail grinds. Good enough for a cruiser right? Yes they are. To my satisfaction I found that they turned well and I didn’t have much to complain about. You get what you pay for, and sometimes you get a little extra. I didn’t need to swap out the bushings (surprise!) and they ride fine. If you are looking to set up a secondary deck on the cheap or a you’ve got a younger relative that wants to start skating these are a good buy. They are available in 5″, 5.25″, and 5.5″ widths.

I bought my first pair of Cadillac trucks thirty years ago in high school. Unless you weigh 300 pounds, these are great trucks. We ollied many stair sets back then. Only one pair stripped the axle due to learning kick flips and landing on the side of the board. No failures after that. If you love a skate product then skate it. Don’t listen to everyone else, that’s what all this is about.
