Pezzati is between a rock and a hard place. Any musical aspirations he has will continue to be compared to Naked Raygun by both fans and detractors. There will always be dicks like me who will write reviews saying his new stuff is Ok, but not nearly as good as the heyday. Then there will be those who argue whether that heyday occurred during Basement Screams, Throb Throb, or All Rise, no matter how much Pezzati himself will tell you that it was Raygun… Naked Raygun.

So here I am, determined not to break with that tradition. There will always be moments when The Voice will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Indecison comes close on a couple occasions, most notably on the incendiary “Burn it Al” A lot of songs on Indecision could easily be imagined on some lost Raygun album. The slick production of the record provides a glimpse into an alternate reality where Naked Raygun ended up on a major label like Husker Du and Sonic Youth. Indecision was produced by J. Robbins whose credits include Jawbox and Against Me! To give you an idea.

What’s the point? I am obviously not creative enough to be able to talk about this record without harping on the Raygun connection, which I’m sure is much to the chagrin of Pezazati and the rest of the band. There are some good songs on Indecision, mostly when Pezzati is approaching Raygun mode instead of emo crooner mode. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and comes across as a guy that must have had the shit knocked out him emotionally and has lost some of his confidence. It’s sometimes depressing and calls to mind the noticeable mood shift that occurred somewhere around Understand. Indecision has its moments however, and the ever popular Buzzcock influenced “whoa-whoa’s” that only he can pull off without seeming forced. Indecision is a solid record and in my book, an improvement over Torch Songs. $10 right from the record label or the band.
