Zephyr: Young Dudes in Heavy Spots
An early ad for the legendary Zephyr company with some legendary ad copy like “Well, cheer up, bud, now you too can ride the skateboard of the pros…” and “Young dudes who go for it at some of the heaviest spots around…” For such a “heavy” company, the ad copy is very square, unless it’s supposed to be tongue in cheek. Or maybe that was actually good ad copy for the time. Either way,its excellent stuff.
For all the myth and legends, these guys were basically still kids. The contest results listings were probably small local/regional events. Also interesting to note, at this point in the game, Tony Alva isn’t getting top billing on the team yet.
In 1975, a 6 1/2 inche wide board is considered wide.
