eBay Watch June 2003

Tons of cool stuff went off in June. Let’s jump right in with the Powell stuff.

Powell

First up we have this used Ray Rodriguez skull and sword pig. Not bad condition at all really. Color is nice and the stickers actually look pretty good. At least there’s some consistency here. $355.

Next up is another original member of the Bones Brigade: Alan Gelfand. His “ollie” tank deck has been reissued a million times, but here’s an original. I don’t dig the white paint, but it’s not too bad. How does $450 sound?

Here’s a deck by the 3rd and final member of the original Bones Brigade—Jay Smith. The graphic is naff, but it’s a rare deck in any condition. Dig that snub nose! His new deck on Skaterbuilt has a very similar shape. This complete went for $546. tell me those aren’t Nash rails!

Moving on to the 2nd wave of the Bones Brigade we have this 2nd edition Tony Hawk pig. It’s s very well known graphic—the “screaming chicken”, but you more often see it on the penis shaped board of the mid 80s. This early 80s pig is scarce. How scarce? $1031.

Finally we have the classic Per Welinder graphic, this time on a freestyle deck. Looks good on the pale blue dip. $299.

Santa Cruz

Here is the ultimate poseurs deck. If you saw a kid with this board back in the day, it would take all your willpower not to steal the board, scratch it up, and then cut off his rattail. You know the deal. Of course today we worship the poseur kids because their vintage boards are pristine! This first edition Rob Roskopp says it all. Gotta love the lime green tail some that has zero wear. $1235.

This Jeff Kendall has seen some wear, but for a vintage deck it shows really well. Love the mix and match wheels, and the Vision sticker even though it’s a Santa Cruz. Looks like a 1986 Bones Brigade Tour sticker on the tail. $306.

You don’t see original Jason Jessee mermaids on the bay too much these days. Maybe it’s because of the SC reissue. This original rare “sharktail” (most have the mermaid on the tail) went for $1000 even. Nice.

Here’s one of my favorites. The Corey O’Brien reaper. I really hope SC reissue this baby, because I love the graphic. This is one of the nicest I’ve ever seen. Shiny black dip makes the graphics really pop. Sweet, sweet deck. $565.

Here’s a SC deck that is climbing in price every month. You use to see this at all of the online shops in the $70 range: no more. This Salba tiger went for $207.

And speaking of Salba, how’s about an original Salba voodoo t-shirt. You never see these. This one went for $194, even though it was a small. How do I know? I was the seller! Bonus!

You want roots? Here’s an early Santa Cruz Duane Peters. Not the earliest or rarest, or even the best graphic, but Duane stuff is always valued. $355. Dig the Devo sticker on the tail.

A bunch of these this month. Let’s start with a rare one. The Skull Skates Gang Green deck. Never much rated Gang Green. Thought they were crap actually. The deck looks nice though, and you don’t see it often, especially not mint. $354.

Here’s another Skull Skates band deck: the Vandals. One of my zine partner’s favorite (from the era -ed) bands. Another rare one, to the tune of $510.

And here’s one we’ve all seen once too often: the JFA deck. This seem to crop up all the time. Never personally rated the band or the deck, but there you go. $306. Nice colors on this one though. If you’re gonna get one, get a loud one. (But who made this? Is it a new Factory 13 or one of the old ones? Who made those old ones?- k.ed)

Miscellaneous

Let’s start off with this G&S Neil Blender “faces” deck. Neil had some of the best and most imaginative graphics around and all were self penned. Highly prized too. $255.

Here’s one you don’t see everyday. Duane Peters continued to have pro models, even through the vert-dead 90s. This one was on Think, and came out in 1995. $305.

Here’s a beautiful early Dogtown complete. It’s the PC Tailtap model. Super clean $910.

Here’s a deck that I used to own, except mine was blue and full sized. The Zorlac John Gibson cutaway. Awesome deck. Dig the shape of the nose. The Gringo reissue got everything right except for the nose. Rare. $385.

Here’s the highlight of the month. Christian Hosoi skated for Alva for a time, and had a pro model. You never see it, but one popped up in June. Full on pig with wheelwells etc. Rare as fuck, to the tune of $2500.

A month wouldn’t be complete without a Vallely or two. He’s ridden for more companies that anybody else I can think of, and has so many different decks throughout the years. I love the guy. Here’s an early World Industries deck that revisits his elephant graphic. Signed too. $667.

And here’s his original Powell graphic on a 90s popsicle that he put out on Television: his own company. TV wasn’t around for long, so the decks are rare. This deck fetched $510.

Jason Lee? Street innovator? Scientologist? Washed-up actor? Whatever he is, his decks go for big money. This mint Cat in the Hat went for $1025.

Do you have a crappy, beat up old pair of Vans in your closet? Don’t throw them away. Throw them on eBay where crazy guys bid them up. This vintage pair of Madrid Fly vans went for $262. And I was going to toss ‘em in the garbage.

Finally we have some really vintage items. A mint set of Sims Snakes wheels. Conicals no less. Sweet sweet sweet. $324.

And how’s this for the ultimate Sims collection. Two decks, five sets of wheels, copers, a great team jersey, and even a headband! I think it was a bargain at $1946.

And finally how’s about a set of Stroker trucks, mint in bag. Before Fausto did the Indys, he invented the Strokers, complete with springs etc. look at the height of those things! Crazy rare. $1009.

See ya next month!

-Neil
