Tarp Surfing
No matter what your personal feelings towards taking this seriously, you have to admit it’s a genius dork session. I especially like the stand up paddler. They did so well on some of these simulations, but totally blew it with the choice of soundtrack. Flame on. – Thanks to Darryl and Ben Reese for the tip
Pool Season at Weiden+Kennedy
Weiden+Kennedy is filming skateboards again. Must be a contact high from all their Nike work. This time it’s all about how it’s (still) pool season in California. Not a lot of actual skateboarding, but it is packed with some nicely framed shots of empty pools. Check out Cannonball. – Thanks to… I lost the email! Sorry.
Far East Billiards
I love watching videos from the Far East Skate Network. They sweat skills and poop creativity. Keep watching, because just when you think you know their next move, they throw a curveball. – Thanks to t Skate D for the tip.
GVK#55: Terror Tour 2010
Noting epic here just A Good Ole Fashioned TERROR TOUR Annual spring Oregon coast tour. Many or these parks are empty as you can see, so get your trip on. If your lucky you may run into the Zombie or the Ghost. If you do make sure to make them happy by giving them money. Gvk OUT.
DIY ST.L
Here’s a short documentary on the Kings Highway DIY project in Saint Louis, made by Gabe Kehoe. – Thanks to Bob Mechtly for the tip.
Two towns. Two videos
I’m watching this first video by “Jimmy” that looks like it takes palce in Corvallis and an Harrisburg, Oregon, And I’m thinking, Damn! That’s the scene to be in. What do those guys need help with a skatepark for? Just kidding about the skatepark thing there BCSA, but your locals are tearing it up! The second video was shot at Pier Park by KC, and aside from Thomas shown in the bottom still shot, it mainly features Shane Bell, who looks like he has recovered from his bone break in his leg about a year ago.
Unheard: Bacon video premieres
Starting in Portland on January 22nd, 8pm at DOS. Skate for an hour free beforehand. More cities and dates after the jump.
Early Burnside video and TV news coverage
I’d place this video at maybe 93-94? That’s my layman’s-I-wasn’t-there guess. It was posted on YouTube by Nate Sherwood, so it’s mostly footage of him as a youngster, but mid way through there is some amusing footage from a local Portland news channel. Seems to be from shortly after the city of Portland decided to leave it alone. Look for Mark Scott in a Turf t-shirt. – Thanks to Malcolm MacMaster for the tip.
Do you like your DIY polished or raw?
Wieden+Kennedy, the add agency behind Nike and some other high profile companies has a series of original audio and video content. We’re here to talk about the series called D.I.Y. America: A serialized show focusing on leaders in the youth/punk/DIY movement. Subjects include over two decades of leaders from the skateboarding, punk, grafitti and hip-hop worlds. Assembled using footage shot for (but never included in) the Beautiful Losers film. Examples: Ian MacKaye, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Glen Friedman, Tony Hawk, etc. Now I get it. I watched the episodes before I read the description. It’s leftover footage from another project, and as such it comes off more as an extended trailer than an actual feature. There’s come good footage in there, and it’s very slick, but a little unfulfilling. The skateboarding episodes skip an installment, and are numbered in parts, so it’s a little confusing. (DIY America Episode 3 , Skate and Create Part 2….) Best begin at the beginning. Is it just me or does Ethan Fowler sound and look like he’s doing a Jason Schwartzman impression? (See episode 4). On the opposite end of the scale, check out this video from reader Tim Laidlaw. It’s actually a video…
Born to skate in Germany
I can’t remember how I found this, but I ended up watching the trailer for Born to Skate and getting stoked on the different terrain and approach to a skate video. It was supposed to be an independently released feature-length film. It’s multi-discipline as well, featuring street, vert and even freestyle in the trailer. Of course, it’s over a year old and from Germany, so I have no idea whatever happened to it. It looks like it’s worth checking out though. Source: Design You Trust
