Loaded in the desert
Some really fun session footage in the dessert of Moab. I swear I’ve referenced the old Element Skateboards (I think ) advert of someone skating on the rocks in the desert before, but I can’t find it on S&A anywhere. I can’t even remember who it was. I want to say Danny Way, but that doesn’t seem right (Because it isn’t right, thanks to Brock and Scotty who pointed out is was in fact Jeremy Wray.) Anyone out there remember who it was? In any case, check out this video from Loaded. Everyone likes to go on and on about ditch skating, but there’s skating on natural ditches in here that looks excellent. In fact, so much of the terrain looks excellent, as long as you have big soft wheels. After you’re done with this video, check out some natural rock terrain skating that you’ve probably never seen before over on Negative Ion, just scroll left when you get there.
Billy Bones Selfie
Skateboarding in Portland, all kinds. Watch it. It’s a Billy Bones Selfie. – Thanks to Jordan for the tip.
3D Printed Skateboard
Sam Abbot designed and modeled this skateboard deck. He printed one in three pieces (too big for his printer) and fit it together with a dowel system and some epoxy. He’s the first to admit that it’s not super sturdy. Sure, it’s nothing more than a novelty right now, but there are some things you should do, just because you can.
Astronauts Guide to Life
Chris Hadfield has a new book titled An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth. The astronaut on the cover is on a skateboard, as is the astronaut in the promo video his son made. Good stuff all around. I guess I should have said “The Right Stuff.” [Source: Metro]
Skull, skates
Light Goes On is a combination of long exposure photographs (light painting) and stop action animation made by Darren Pearson. Clever beyond belief. Watch it after the jump. [Source: DP Preview] – Thanks to Glenn Corpes for the tip.
7 Seconds at Svitak’s – Pat Duffy
Episode #7 of 7 Seconds at Svitak’s features Pat Duffy… killing it. I’m really liking this series.
Layers of color
I can’t remember why I had this bookmarked, or how I found it, but it must have been for a good reason. Must have been because it looked fun. Lots of cool banks.
Cross Training
Two instances of world class athletes using skateboards for cross training purposes. First up is 10k Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah allegedly building balance on a skateboard, though admittedly just an experiment, and more likely just a photo op for the The Oregonian. On the right, Daniel Woods “prepares” for the 2010 Bouldering World Cup at a skatepark. With the event just two days after the video footage was shot, he was probably just trying to relax, get his mind off the competition, and of course, not get hurt! Video footage of Daniel after the jump – Just a tiny bit of skating and a lot of bouldering, but it’s some amazing bouldering footage. – Thanks to Jim Lilly and Chris Yeager for the tips.
Salman Agah: Some Recollections
From the mind and memories of Simon Woodstock: I remember when I first met Salman. It was in 1988 and I was working at Winchester Skateshop in Campbell, CA and he came rolling up one day in a beat up lowered brown Toyota. His driver’s seat was also lowered so all I could see were his nose, eyes, and Afro haircut through the car door window as he bouncily drove up to the shop front. Pretty hilarious! He parked his car and pulled out a Powell Peralta set up and started doing some really consistent flat land lines in front of the shop but nothing too insane. I later saw him around at skate jams doing some pretty cool (yet standard for the time) launch ramp airs. We eventually became good friends and hung out a lot in San Jose doing whatevs. We sort of just cruised around from spot to spot doing slappies and wall rides and so forth. Until one day… Get the rest of the story and a video after the jump. Thanks to Simon for sharing.
A Golden Egg
It’s a little bit of Gonz, a lot of Simon Woodstock, and a little bit of Sorcery 118. These frame grabs only scrape the surface of what Jesse James and Chris Atherton are up to in terms of weird little Frankenstein skateboards and general… I guess shenanigans is the word I’m looking for. Seriously. These are not the best frame grabs, but there were too many to choose from. Some people find this kind of thing annoying, but I defy you not to smile while you are watching this. It’s a Golden Egg After you watch it, check out a short interveiw and some behind the scenes action on Caught in the Crossfire. – Thanks to KC for the tip.
