Maui Babe

Got 15 minutes to kill? You could do worse. Maui babe is a pretty mellow video that has high tides of intensity, some good music, vert, street, ditches, pools and skateparks. What else could you ask for? And it’s from Thrasher.

Thrasher: Maxium Rad

Riizoli New York is publishing a book containing every cover from the first 30 years of Thrasher Magazine called Maximum Rad: The Iconic Covers of Thrasher Magazine, with an introduction written by Craig Stecyk. There are 250 pages of covers, some full page, some are quarter page. It’s being released on February 21st, and Skate and Annoy has a copy for one lucky S&A reader. Just leave a comment in the post, deadline is February 21st at midnight. Don’t bother trying to butter up the editor, it’s random.

Under the Bridge in Portland

Under the Bridge tonight is where you’ll find Crispin Glover.. No wait, that’s at the river’s edge. New from Thrasher and the guy that brought you the big-bang-for-the-buck beer series, it’s Under the Bridge. It’s a chronicle of D.I.Y. bridge projects subtitled “Quit bitching and start building.” Expect to see footage of Burnside, FDR, Washington Street, Channel Street, and others. There’s a trailer online, or if you are in Portland tonight, Shrunken Head is sponsoring two showings at the Clinton Street Theater, located at 2522 SE Clinton St. The all ages showing is at 7pm and the 21 and over showing is at 9pm. See ya there.

Camp Kill Yourself

So I talked Randy into giving me a “column”  in an effort to empty some of my thoughts on skateboarding and the skateboard industry and whatever else i thought would make for good discussion related to skateboarding. It didn’t take me too long to convince him after i brought up the fact that Grover had posting capabilities and basically one rule – no talking about pork products. The most interesting part of posts on Skate and Annoy and any website are the comments and the viewers opinions on the posted subject. So here we go with my first post: Jake over at Thrasher wants everyone to die, this time with a post called “Time to Die” which basically encourages people to try and ollie the stair set in the photo below. I believe he also asks people to “go kill themselves” as they attempt to conquer this feat and will reward them with $1000 for footage to prove that it happened. So, what do you think? MC in Thrasher - 1984

Sometimes it takes 25 years

I was perusing the back issues of Thrasher (yes, perusing…) when I found MC in the April, 1984 issue of Thrasher. It’s the Photograffiti section. It includes a paragraph where Mark (AKA Max Concave) talks about a ramp some surfers built here in Oregon, and laments about the lack of initiative shown by skaters. Well, 25 years later MC finally remedied the situation. Check it out after the jump… or I suppose you could actually read it at the Thrasher site. Gee whiz, don’t those High Speed Publications guys realize they are putting hundreds of nostalgia skateboard bloggers out of their imaginary, non-paying jobs? Seriously though, that is the MO of a lot of skate blogs out there, scan some old ads or features from the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s, and then reminisce. I’m not knocking them, because I do it all the time.
