Goofy is Regular
This is the third appearance of the Disney character Goofy on Skate and Annoy. This time he’s on a Whitman puzzle from some point in the 70’s, or possibly even the late 60’s as this source places the first usage of the Whitman Kid logo as early as 1967. The board style in the illustration certainly has a 60’s, steel wheel look to it, even if S&A readers have seen that commercial illustrators tend to lag behind current trends a half a decade or more when drawing skateboards.
Who’s Goofy?
I’m combining two goofy posts into one, featuring Goofy and Mike V. Who you calling goofy? I’m certainly not calling you goofy, Mr Vallely, Sir. What we have here are two items that are only marginally related at best, because they both feature the Disney character known as Goofy. There’s a glutton of Goofy products with skateboards, only one of which I’ve featured here before. I’ve got others on deck though. (I slay myself…) On the left, original artwork and press proofs for an 80’s era Aladin lunchbox featuring Goofy and the gang at a skatepark. On the right, someone auctioned off Mike V’s season pass to Disneyland.
Vintage Goofy skateboarder
Goofy has a history of appearing on skateboards. In Extremely Goofy Movie, Goofy’s son goes to college and enters the “College X Games.” It doesn’t seem that absurd now, actually. Goofy misses his son so much that he goes to college too, and ends up skating for the evil frat boy team against his son. There’s also a toy Goofy figure on a skateboard that was made a few years ago. The shot above is a toy that may date as far back as 1977. It’s from an expired eBay auction, but becasue I love you, and have a problem, you can look at more shots after the jump.
