Lafayette CO skatepark grand opening Saturday
The new skatepark for the city of Lafayette, CO is having a grand opening on December 11th, at noon, although I hear there has already been a soft opening. Check some more pictures on the Facebook page.. It seems like Team Pain owns the state of Colorado these days.
New Regional Park for Arvada, Colorado
Team Pean just got the bid on what looks like a massive new skatepark in Arvada, Colorado. Construction on the 40,000 square foot park is expected to start “as soon as the snow melts in spring of 2011.”
Broomfield Colorado
Tito over at Team Pain sent in some pics from a recent lunchtime session at the Broomfield, Colorado skatepark, which is currently under construction. It appears to be almost done actually, but maybe we’re not seeing the whole park. All the sunshine in those pictures, it’s like a foreign country compared to Oregon so far this wet and dreary summer. Seriously Mom Nature, WTF?
Shotcrete Magazine
The Fall 2009 issue of Shotcrete Magaizine had a cover story on recreational projects with a two page spread on skateparks featuring Team Pain. (Update: Actually written by Tim Payne with contributions from Team Pain) with That looks like an old photo of their Cocoa Beach skatepark on the cover. Shotcrete.org doesn’t have the Fall 2009 archive up yet, but you can read it over at Team Pain. While trying to find it, I came across a Spring 2004 article titled The Growing Market for Shotcrete in Skatepark Construction. I’ll say!
Vintage Gonz with a 12 foot ollie
This is contest video from one of the the last hurrahs of the N.S.A., the organization that would eventually end up as World Cup Skateboarding, believe it or not. Mark made this ollie gap twice, once in practice and once in the contest. It’s the branch of the y-shaped miniramp that Team Pain built for the the Honolulu, Hawaii contest in 1988. On the bottom left you can see a flash going off. That’s Grant Brittain. Don’t believe me? You can see the shot he took at that instant at The Skateboard Mag. Watch the video after the jump. – Thanks to Tito for the tip.
New skate park for Steamboat Springs
Team Pain recently broke ground on a new concrete skatepark in Steamboat Springs. They are moving fast, and they have to because they could see snow in October, even at lower elevations. I lived in Steamboat for a couple years in early 90’s. One of my fondest memories was arriving there on Halloween, just in time for a party out in the country somewhere, probably Stagecoach or something. At the party there was a barn with a miniramp. One of the guys skating had shaved his entire body (eyebrows too) and was wearing full bondage gear with a codpiece. Suicide Mike was his name, but that’s a different story. When I lived there the city had a crappy little skatepark consisting of a couple of small mediocre ramps and some crappy street obstacles on a slab of concrete. It was smaller and crappier even than their current setup at Howlesen Hill. Howelsen had a ski jump that some Olympic hopefuls used to practice on. I used to see that thing and ponder hitting it on a snowboard. Of course I had no idea people would skateboard these things one day. Before I get back on track here, Team Pain’s own…
Epic wooden skatepark? Yes.
It’s hard to associate the word “epic” with a wooden skatepark, but I think Team Pain may have in fact pulled it off. Epic I was skeptical when I heard some of the gushing about it in the intro to the Transworld video, but as the frames kept coming, it started to become more and more clear. Not only is this thing huge… HUGE, but it’s also go some very interesting obstacles in the form of wooden bases or tranny topped off with concrete skating surfaces. Epic Indoor Skatepark in Rocklin, CA (near Sacramento) is set to have it’s grand opening March 14th and 15th. Check out some pictures, as well as the Transworld viddy after the jump. – Thanks to Tito for the tip and pics.
