Go skate a sidewalk
Mother nature wants you to skate launch ramps. Don’t ask me where it is, because it’s within a five block radius of my house.
SOTW 5/31/10: South Africa
This week’s Shot of the Week is an excuse to link to Michael Goetz’ gallery of skate photos from his ongoing residence in South Africa. He’s been there for about five months. Aside from visiting family, he’s working on planning the first bowl in Cape Town. Check out his South Africa gallery, or head on down to the Shot of the Week.

Oh Canablah…
That’s right, fully passing off press releases as content here on Skate and Annoy. We’ve got readers in Canada. F-U hosers! Video after the jump. And, oh yeah, this 16 year old kid named Will Cristofaro rides for Control.
Spot check: NE Portland
Jake Ferranti sent a few shots of a cool spot in NE Portland: I was with a friend roaming the NE portland area when we came upon a couple fun banks. One alongside a yard, homeowner was cool as hell and she let us ride as long as we wanted. It needs edging tho but we made do. Looks fun to me. I can’t believe I’ve never seen this. Yes I can. There are spots like this hidden all over. Don’t ask me, I haven’t been there… yet.
Oklahoma welcomes you.
From Seth Levy, while on a road trip to Oklahoma. The most fun thing to do at the eastern Oklahoma welcome center on I-40. Blowing it out y’all! Enlarge-o-rama.
Is it still DIY if you didn’t do anything?
Danimal went camping with Shawn F on the coast near Newport, Oregon. I know it sounds kind of gay, but it wasn’t because it was all dudes. Just ask Grover to explain that one… Anyway, the camp site asphalt was pushed up by the roots of a tree looking for water, and it created a little kicker. It looks like kind of gnarly terrain, good thing Danimal had a shortboard with a ridiculous oversized soft wheel and truck combo.
Flatland wizardry out of nowhere
There is some insane footwork in this video. Street skating, straight up freestyle, and several points in between. For instance, the guy doing the handstand fingerflip in the shot above actually ollied on to the top of that pole to get there. Think Natas spin without the spin, and then a departure. I guess kids are out ther getting stoked on old Rodney Mullen videos, and then taking it from there. These guys have got technical skills out the wazoo, but my desire to worship at the altar of their talent is severely tempered by the same geek vibe that hampered freestyle in the 80’s. In this case it’s the cheesy sense of vintage freestyle in their choice of soundtracks. Sick skating though. Check it out after the jump. – Thanks to Eric Cherry for the tip.

Roll-in Challenge 2009
I was stoked on seeing last year’s roll in challenge, so I expected an invite if it ever happened again. Geez, what’s a fellow gotta do to be popular on the Skateboard Interwebs around here? I’ve even got a spot lined up. PDX Downhill has the photos and a rather long-ish video from this year’s participants. They start out on some mellow stuff but graduate to some gnarly spots. On second thought, I don’t know if could hang… Aside from the roll in footage, there’s also some good old fashioned street skating. Looks like it was a damn fun way to spend Go Skateboarding Day, or any other day. Check it out. – Thanks to last week’s SOTW, Casey Morrow for the tip.
