Smurfarna!
S&A reader Johan snapped a few pics of a CD he found at a flea market. Smurf Hits are compilations of smurfed versions of pop tunes. The Smurfarna versions are sung in Swedish, some by this lady. Surfarna 5 came out in 1998, and features some excellent skateboarding (Smurfboarding?) action on the covers. Back in 1997 they used a skateboard in the art for an English speaking compilation as well. It will make your ears bleed.
Sidewalk Smurfin
Have I used Sidewalk Smurfin before? I would have thought so, but the closest I came was “Keep on Smurfin'” way back in 2009? Can that be right? This backpack/satchel/briefcase has the most radical Smurf on it I’ve ever seen. The seller couldn’t pinpoint the date closer than the 70’s or 80’s, and nobody bid on it starting at $10. The board looks possibly late 70’s-ish but we all know cartoons aren’t exactly timely when it comes to depicting skateboards. If I had to guess I’d say it was mid 80’s vintage. Super. – Thanks to David Maes for the tip.
Smurf Hardees
The Hardees restaurant equivalent of a Happy Meal box, dating back to 1990. It’s called a Funmeal. Say it over and over again. It makes me think of mealworms. Another rare Smurfette appearance on a skateboard. $25, so yeah… no.
Smurfed from the source
Well, not exactly the source. Smurfs are from Belgium, but these came from the Netherlands, although, maybe they were made in Belgium, at least the ceramic mug was made in Europe. I can’t imagine a PVC Smurf figure for even a European McDonalds would be made anywhere other than China. I got these both as separate purchases from the same seller, who was kind enough to put the figure in the mug and refund the extra shipping charge. $5 is a surfing excellent deal for shipping both of these from the Netherlands.
