If you’re going to bootleg someone’s graphics, why not rip off two companies at the same time? In this case, a later era Rob Roskopp and Sims Screamer second generation, which looks like it was taken from the band the Screamers in the first place. Actually, I think the second generation Sims Screamer was totally different. This might just be an appropriation of the band’s graphic. Where do you get one of these? An interview with two big names in the 90’s era of skateboard graphics, Sean Cliver and Marc Mckee over on Memory Screened, a blog that appears to be entirely devoted to skateboard graphics, which is an awesome idea. Funny thing is, I have no idea who writes it. It’s described as: an archive for my eponymous monthly page in Skateboarder mag. Absolutely shameless, unrated boardnography, exposed! – minus the Ebay guilt Trouble is, I haven’t seen a copy of Skateboarder Mag outside of the occasional subscription spam in my email since… well It’s probably been 10 years. So eponymous or not, I don’t know who writes the column. It’s alsmot enough to make me want to check it out. I found this on a round about way, I think I was following web links from the comments and ended up here eventually. Looks like Skate Daily has a pingback there too. Oh yeah, definitely worth checking out, the archive of World Industries catalogs from 1989-1992. That’s totally something I’d expect to see… well, here on Skate and Annoy.

I got an envelope from Born Ugly with issue number nine and a Snakebeast comic from contributor James Callahan, courtesy of his collaboration with Carhartt, who has also released some Snakebeast decks, one that looks like it came straight out of Aaron Murray’s quiver. If you love Born Ugly, you won’t be disappointed with issue 9. As for Snakebeast, I gotta say I wasn’t into it at first but I about midway through it I started coming around. By the time it was over I wanted more. It’s short one and only a one off I believe. Maybe it will stoke James to make it a series. Check out the decks after the jump.

December 2010 was a great month on eBay. There were lots of great decks: some classics and some more unusual ones that don’t get seen too often. I’ve left out some of the “classics” this month, because let’s face it. How many more times can I show a PP Lance Mountain Future Primitive? Yes it’s a great, classic graphic, but after a while it gets dull for me to write about, and probably for you reading this. If I see one in a truly outstanding colorway then perhaps I will show it, but otherwise it has gone the way of the Hawk. And I don’t care if it did fetch over $1000, if I’m not excited about showing it then it’s not in here, whether that be due to over saturation or a poor photograph. I often get emails asking why I didn’t feature a certain auction. Normally it’s because the photo sucked. If the photo is super small, fuzzy and has bad color, then it’s not allowed in here. My readers have to be able to look at the deck as well as read about it. That’s part of the deal.

Things get back to normal this month. Bargain Section? Check. Assorted Crap? Check. 5,000 words? Check. Lots of great looking decks and some surprises? Checkmate. But before we get to the meat I want to look at a couple of things that left me amazed and disgusted in November.

Well I’m really excited about the selection again this month. July was an awesome month for 80s decks, but I think that August was just as good. A little more varied perhaps, but still as good, and I hope you agree. I decided that I was going to go with quality and not quantity this month. I had probably another 20 items in the maybe pile, but I decided that I was just going to go with decks that I felt strongly about and not worry about how much they sold for. Not that there’s not some big hitters this month, because there is. There are lots of decks that break the $1000 barrier, and to me that’s the real dividing line. Overall I think things are looking up after a few down months there at the beginning of the summer. People were complaining back then that the pickings were getting pretty slim on eBay, but July and August have seen bunches of very desirable decks hitting the market. Some have gone high, and some have been pretty reasonable, but nobody can complain that there hasn’t been a great variety.

At this point I think there must be a place that sells the logic board for this type of LCD game intact for finishing and repackaging as you see fit. I think I may have picked this up from the dollar bins at Target. Gameplay: Things come down the road and you push buttons to avoid them. Very boring. Kind of funny considering you used to have to pay upwards of $70 ($20 from 1977 adjusted for inflation) for the same programming logic with less interesting graphics. Yes. I’m talking about Mattel Electronics handheld games. Instead of a 2 dimensional LCD silhouette, you were stuck with LED blips. How did those old handheld games cost? I want to say around $20, but it might have been $35 or so. There was no skateboard version, but it was the same game as Auto Race. Aesthetics did pay tribute to Mattel Electronics with a board series. I like them because I’m nostalgic for old toys (HELLO!!!!!!!) but I’m pretty sure these are just lifted straight from the old advertisements.

Shiner distribution in England is opening up their vaults and having a deck show. The rumor is that they kept at least one of every deck that ever went through there. The show is running for a month at Howies in Bristol. Opening day is Saturday, April 17th.
