Atlanta Spot Check
I was in Atlanta for about 30 hours to watch the MLS Cup. The Timbers lost, which was a bummer. My experience was essentially Airport to Marta to Hotel to Stadium to AirbnB to Airport. I didn’t get to see a lot, but I did catch some nice looking, but mostly wet terrain.
Worst Northwest Tour Ever
Scion brings you the worst ever Northwest skatepark tour, featuring Riley Hawk and something called a “Shep Dawg” crew. There’s something to be said for traveling off the beaten path, but given the wealth available terrain in the Northwest, the park selection is pretty weak. They actually go to a good spot (Windells) but it’s raining, so they stick to the indoor section. Let’s face it, nobody wants/needs to see a session at an indoor wooden skatepark unless it’s phenomenal. Then there’s a prolonged, implied commercial for Exit Real World that sticks out like a sore thumb. The contrast and tension between the spots, action and bad soundtrack (which you can download) makes the whole damned thing really awkward. But then here I am reposting it, so it works on some level. The screen capture above is the best part of the video, watch the rest at your peril. – Thanks to MC for the tip.
The Cost of Skateboarding in Costa Rica
I recently took a trip with my extended family to Costa Rica. It was one of those all inclusive vacations, and although we did take some day trips, I was unable to explore skateboarding in Costa Rica, even though I knew there were a few skateparks in the Guanacaste province where we were staying. In the small town of Playas del Coco I ran into the Costa Rican equivalent of Zumiez known as Arenas Skate and Surf. It was a bit odd, because most of the town (admittedly, only what I saw) seemed pretty low rent, yet there were a few almost self consciously glossy stores. In fact, I didn’t see a skateboard the entire time I was Costa Rica. OK, so I barely got out to see the types of areas where you would expect to see skateboarders, so this not be taken as a review of the Costa Rican skate scene by any means, just my own very myopic experience.
Orcas trip
I haven’t been to Orcas Island in a million years, but this is the year, I swear. As soon as I learn inverts. I love Orcas, did I mention that? Here’s a Landyachtz video featuring downhill, park riding and a metric ton of lifestyle footage. – Thanks to Billy Bones for the tip.
What you missed on the Bacon Tour

Altered Focus: Myanmar road trip
The purpose of this video was supposed to be to portray Myanmar in a different light from the usual perspective of human rights violations and conflict. The filmmakers spend so much time talking about the negative aspects and whining about being lonely in a foreign land that they kind of fail in that aspect. Also it ‘s like they’ve got a bit of a Messiah complex, but that’s not quite it. Maybe a bit of a colonial mindset…. Whatever… thes guys are young, their hearts are in the right place and it’s shot well. At least they are thinking. Just turn down the voiceover. Fair Warning: There’s not really a lot of skating in this video. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip. [Source: CNN GO]
Road trips from promised land to promised land
Besides playing host to hoards of skate tourists from other parts of the country and world, Pacific Northwesters still find excuses to go on road trips to less fortunate places like… California! ( I kid, I kid….) Here’s a couple road trip videos from KC (found at EPM) and Frank Shaw. If I didn’t already know any better I would think that the “K” in K.C. stood for “Kilwag’s record collection.” KC reps for Scum but the also stopped by Billy Runaway’s headquarters, who happens to be an Addikt.
