A short video from Urban Skate Project about what inspires Clayton Graul. Motivational/inspirational videos about DIY are not in short supply, but this one is worth watching if only for the wealth of spots it shows.

Prefab and DIY are two things not commonly associated with each other, but it turns out they were a good fit in at lease one case. Confusion Magazine documented a renegade skate spot perpetrated by Skate DIY that required a quick install, with most of the work being done off site. Unfortunately, the spot came down almost as fast as the installation, lasting a mere 12 hours.

A very short documentary on Marginal Way Skatepark. I think this is the whole thing and not just a trailer. I would have liked to see more, even though the story is very simple, I feel like the filmmaker barely scratched the surface. I’m not sure what happened to the official web presence of Marginal Way, it seems to be limited to this Facebook group.

After a few making a few DIY spots in Zurcih, Switzerland, the September Wheels crew decided to build a bowl, which they christened “The Beast.” You can watch the process (16 minutes) after the jump or check out some pics on blogspot.

It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as John Henry, but the song that was the Peach Orchard met it’s demise courtesy of the Norfolk Southern railway, the property owners. It was railway adjacent, and essentially nothing to them, but they tore it down because the lawyers said they should. Nola.com has the scoop. What did the New Orleans locals get for their trouble? Some leftover ramps from a Red Bull demo and a D.I.Y. hangover. Faster than you can say “hair of the dog,” a new spot is born. Pleasureside is it’s name, and unless I’m mistaken, it’s essentially right next door to the old spot. Even John Henry’s balls weren’t that big! – Thanks to Joey O’Mahoney for the tip.

Yessir, guilty of being delicious. BBQ benefit for the Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in Portland, Oregon on saturday the 16th. Sponosors include Unheard Skate Supply, Merde Skateboards, Rip City Skates, and Cold War Skateboards. What’s going on with Brooklyn Street? When are they going to break ground on the second half? Enquiring minds want to know.

Back in May of last year there was a Shot of the Week from a DIY spot in New Orleans that has since become known as Peach Orchard. I’m happy to report that the spot is still going and they’ve added some new concrete. They’re holding benefits and accepting donations via Paypal and the head bean counter Joey O’Mahoney.

Scout Magazine out of Vancouver BC has some shots of a Victoria renegade park in progress. From the looks of it, they appear to know how to work the concrete. I hope the press doesn’t blow it for the locals. It’s bad enough that they have to worry about kooks in Oregon posting pictures, let alone local mainstream (alternative) publications. On that note… Uh, this project is in Tennessee. UPDATE: Oops! Forgot the link. Just added it.
